My Clutch is GONE
#41
My e36 M3 has over 80k miles and the clutch is still good for another 10-20k miles. I used to drive it everyday, autox and track it once a month. Down shift breaking since day one. Only w/mild slippage when I do a burnout.
No wonder Acura is dumping CL~

sounds for sure like you have oil or something on the clutch...I had the same problem after about 2000 miles on my porsche because I blew out a tranny seal...

how many six speed owners are on this board?
only me and one other person have had problems, and the other guy was doing burnouts again as soon as he got his new clutch i would hardly say its cause for concern about the six speed tranny

i just talked to my dealership (niello) and they told me they are still waiting on parts before they can take a look at my old clutch becasue for some reason the way the cl is put together once he takes it apart to look at it he to leave it up on his rack until he puts it back together so he will start work on it as soon as the parts arrive, the dealership is being cool about it and he just offered me a loaner

and yes its neillo and ive had nothing but good experiances with them so far

There's no way after 8K that a tranny would puke on someone w/o some sort of mechanical failure. Good will my ass, it shld be covered under warranty. Not unless that 8K was arrived at 1/4 of a mile at a time under high loading and continuously missed shifts. I'd call Acura's 800 number and raise some serious shit here if I was you.

1. not that i makes a difference, but i am 22 not 19.
2. i know how to drive stick (owned a '88 911 targa, 98 explorer sport, 98 mustang gt) all sticks. never had problems.
3. thats not a ruber stamp on the ticket, its called photoshop, and not that i should have to explain myslef to someone i dont know, but that ticket is on my site as a joke for my friends who were in the car with me and in a car behind me. its funny because i pulled out of a toll plaza onto a drawbridge briefly spinning the tires (which if you drove an 03 CLS 6spd you would know that it is not hard to do) on a metal surface between the plaza and the drawbridge going in to treasure island. an island community in tampa bay that has like 5 police officers who have nothing else to do but give people tickets.
p.s. even the judge thought it was bullshit and dismissed the ticket.
not tryin to be a dick, EricL, just correcting you...

What's hard driving to a 19-year-old, 30-year-old and/or 50-year-old? Now add in variations based on previous car ownership and degrees of "hot rod" prep. Hey, I sure got my jollies off in the 16- to 21-year-old period...
So, what might be OK on one car might not be "super" for a 260- to 300-HP FWD car.
Acura went to the trouble to damp the return action (orifice to slow down the clutch return) for the 6-speed. (They probably did it to keep peek loads on the drive train down) Let's see, these cars are putting down 220-250hp to the ground in manual form (without FI). So, if anything the clutch is not engaging and disengaging extremely fast (as would be the case with some other cars that were NOT FWD). The slower engagement means that the clutch is going to wear quicker if the shifts are "rushed."
So, there's going to a few duds. However, if someone gets a chance to look at the "dead" parts (meaning you paid for 'em), you can "generally" tell if something has been beaten-up. If the pressure plate or hydraulics are "acting up", or there is an oil leak that is causing the clutch to slip and burn, it will show up on inspection.
So, is one street start per day abuse?
OR
One burnout per stoplight?
AND
IMO, some cars will do it all day long, others will NOT.
I asked the question about "Do you drop the clutch" to BrendanCL who was one of the few people showing-up in the tranny problems forum. And, I was curious. He's 19-years-old (tell me I’m wrong) and here is an interesting link:
This is a DIRECT QUOTE FROM BRENDAN (it's his website):
"...already got a ticket in the few days i got the acura back.
since when is peeling out a $80 crime?"
LINK to above site and quote: http://www.brendanmcdowell.com/home.htm
(So, this isn't a, "boy the cop was unfair, I never, ever let my clutch out hard...)
LINK to ticket (how long it remains is an interesting question):
A little image processing and voilà:
1. Aggressive driving box is checked off on TICKET
2. Careless driving, improper start is written AND rubber-stamped in red on same TICKET.
