My car only blows cold air..... help!

So my heat won't work, no matter what temp I set the air at, it seems that the car only wants to blow cold air. Even if it's warm outside, the car still blows cold air.

The display doesn't say that the AC is on.

It's not the temp sensor in the car because it still does it when I take the fan off auto.

I'd like to keep from having to go to the dealer, so anyone got any tips? experience with this problem?

Thanks

sounds like you might need to replace your thermostat

That's it? the thermostat is stuck open? I'll have to check to see if the engine temp ever warms up.

Make sure the coolant is full too... on some cars, you won't get heat with if the system isn't full...

thermostat is mechanical and there's no way the PCM would light up CEL.

has to be verified :
- thermostat
- coolant level (air free system)
- heater valve (right in front of the firewall a little on the pass side from center), look if the cable is working properly from cold to hot on the HVAC, check if valve is spinning or is it only the top portion with the cable (happened to me once on a MDX)

Okay, it's not the thermostat, the car heats up to normal operating temp range, and the hoses feel hot as normal.

Coolant level is fine, about a third of the way above the minimum line when cool.

TypeSZero, can you explain a little more what I'm looking for on the heater valve to see if it's working properly? Do I need to have someone inside adjusting the heat/ac while I do this?

the tstat is mechanical but the ECT sensor is not, so, if the Tstat were stuck open i assure you the car would throw a CEL

The thermostat has nothing to with if you car blows hot air or not...If the thermostat was stuck open then you car would run hot all the time

as per your link closed for rapid warm up...open as in constant coolant flow for cold running which would greatly inhibit the cars ability to prduce heat and the ECT would read cooling system inefficientcy and throw a code .

again as per link above:

Weak thermostats can open too soon Ray A.
Symptoms of weak, open thermostat: engine temperature does not get up to normal; heater puts out only warm or cool air; engine may not perform up to normal standards; hoses may be cooler than normal (touch carefully).
