My 2003 CLS 6spd
Greetings! I am the proud original owner of a 2003 Aegean blue CLS 6 speed with 161k. The only mods are XLS power headers, tanabe exhaust, KN filter and progress rear sway. Have enjoyed the forum from afar but wanted to share my experience with a car I hope to have for another 100k! :-)~

Beauty of a color and car!! When I bought my CL I had two cars lined up, both of which were 6 speeds , one being a NBP and the other being SMR. Ended up getting the NBP but could not get over that blue.

New to the CL world.
Hey my name is Doug, just picked up an AB Type S 6 speed, with 241k on it, still runs pretty strong. Needs a complete brake job, any advice on recommended rotors pads, calipers would be appreciated, that's all it needs, not bad for 1,800.00!

What's the best suspension for the 6Speed that doesn't compromise ride quality? I would want 1.5 in the front and 1 in the rear. As a daily driver on ATL midtown roads it needs to be able to handle a lot!

Really depends on the price range you are looking for! I would avoid lowering springs as it makes our car have that terrible reverse rake look . I have some tein street basis that I am waiting to throw in this spring.

Thanks for the info! I'm am aware of the reverse rake issue that's why I'm still trying to figure out the best setup for the 6speed. Please let me know how is the ride quality with tein street basis when you get them on.

I have Koni yellows with H&R Race springs. In addition to vastly improving the handling of the car, they also allow me to adjust the shocks for comfort or for stiffness. I don't adjust the shocks too loose as I feel they would not capably dampen the H&R Race spring rate. But somewhere right under the medium setting has been nice for high-speed highway driving.
I don't notice the "reverse rake" look in mine, but the Koni yellow shocks have two different mounting perch settings for the springs. You could put the front shocks on the lower setting and leave the rears on the higher setting. This would eliminate the sag in the back.

Ya I was looking at those koni yellows but at the end of the day you would end up spending just as much as you would on coilovers. Yellows are going for 500$ and you will end up spending around 200$ on springs (depending on brand). I picked up my tein for 565$. You could also go with some kyb AGK adjustable shocks/struts but those are still pretty spendy

You spend more but those shocks are miles better than those Teins. Having the ability to adjust ride height on the fly is more of a form principle than a function. You would also have adjustable dampening.
I got rid of my Tein Super Streets with pillow ball uppers on my CB7 for a Koni/Ground Control combination and couldn't be happier.

That is a good point! Although me living in Duluth MN it made more sense to have adjustable ride height due to the ultra Sh*t roads and insane hills everywhere. haha I will definitely move to a higher quality suspension set up eventually but considering I am a college student the price tag on the tein was tough to beat. How low are you on the koni/ground control?

I have had two CL-S 6MT. On one, I put Tein Street Basis. On the other, I put H&R Sport with Bilstein Sport Shocks. I am very happy with the H&R/Bilstein combo.
The Teins were a little too soft for me. I have not seen a reverse rake problem on the H&R/Bilstein combo and if I had to do it again, I would have put the H&R/Bilstein combo on both.
Here is a picture of it on H&R/Bilstein:

I have H&R sport OE on mine with bilstein shocks. You have to get the H&Rs for a 98-02 Honda Accord. The H&R number for the OE sports is 51858. These ride good, but firm and seem corner much "flatter" than the stock springs did. Drop was around 3/4" to 1 inch, with a slight rake (front slightly lower). The shocks are not adjustable, but I,m fine with that, as I just want good all around performance.

I have H&R Sport (the next level in stiffness and lowering from OE sport). Their number is 50103
This is a listing of them. But I don't know anything about the seller.

The CL was too small a volume seller for them to really support it but most of the parts are shared between the Accord or the TL.
Both will fit fine. I don't think H&R made OE and Sport for both models. So you have to reach across the aisle to find one or the other.
