My '03 CL-S MT stronger in cooler weather...why ???

I know that engines really like cooler ambient temps but I have noticed that since we've (NYC) had this strecth of 80 degrees...then back down to 40/50's from day to day that the engine feels much stronger in all gears/ranges when it's cooler. A/C not being used yet) is this related to the "winter gas" that is still being sold at the pump???

no weather can increase or decrease HP by 7-10%!! It is like having 180 WHP at one day and the next is like 220 WHP.

Using this Calc: http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_abs.htm

Temp 40F, Absolute Pressure: 30.50, 25% Relative Humidity ==> Correction Factor = 0.914. Engine makes , 109.5% of SAE normal conditions

Temp 90F, Absolute Pressure: 29.00, 100% Relative Humidity ==> Correction Factor = 1.086. Engine makes 92.1% of SAE normal conditions

Colder air = denser air. Denser air = more air molecules in the combustion chambers = more oxygen molecules = more violent explosion = more power.

Yeah, temperature is a big deal but not as much as elevation! Take a look at this graph I made to see what the difference would be from sea-level here in L.A. to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon (7100ft.):

Yes, especially on those HOT HOT days where your car has been running all day.

If you guys ever turbo or S/C your car you'll feel even a bigger difference in cold air. During the day my boost gauge hits around .65 bar then when its time i can hit .82 bar. that is pretty sick

.65 x 14.7 =9.55 PSI
.82 x 14.7 =12.05 PSI

I can tell you for sure that my TL runs like shit when the whether is 115 degrees here in the summer. The 3.2 liter engine is very happy between 32 and 60 degrees. You will notice this expecially in the morning if you stomp the gas within the first 5 minutes of driving. It has mad torque and pulls like crazy!@!

*EDIT*
$90 for the unit plus install. They say it can be done at home. See the next page in Scalbert's post.

Best days for CLS when it is cold (anywhere below 40-50F) AND clear with High Pressure AND low Relative Humidity or Low Dew Point.

Not the water pump, the T-Stat housing and fan switch are located just below the TB.

In the below pic you can see the coolant hose to the very left with the spring clamp on it. This is attached to the T-Stat housing and you can just about see the lower bolt:

Significantly easier and somethin someone with a 12mm socket and an adjustable wrench can have done in twenty minutes (less the clean up).

hey thanks for the feedback ....I knew it wasn't just my imagination!!! Yesterday and Wednesday and thursday here in NYC we've been in the fifties and the car is super strong. Does the CT Icebox help with the warmer weather performance??

It's easy to install the T-stat, but you need the fan switch as well!
