Is my '03 CL-S 6MT worth fixing?

Hey I have a 6spd 3.2CL-S with navi that ended up in a ditch back in January and has been sitting in my garage ever since. We were in the process of changing insurance companies so we only had liability on it; bad luck on the timing I guess. Well, we're about to sell our house and I figured if there was any time to get it fixed, this would be it. With parts, labor, and paint, a local body shop estimated $11000 for repairs which seems to be beyond the price of the car but I figured I make a few posts online to see if I could get a second opinion considering I'd likely never see one of these cars for sale again.

http://s1041.photobucket.com/albums/b411/Alatar1313/CL/

It looks like only body damage as far as anyone can tell. I drove it down to get the estimate; it drives straight and accelerates just like it always has in the past. All the lights even still work despite the damage. $11000 is still a lot of money to put into a 7 year old car with 75k miles on it.

Do you guys think it's worth fixing or should I just drive it down to the auto salvage and see what I can get for it?

Based on the fact that the damage is so spread out, I dont think 11k is TOO unreasonable although I think that damage can be fixed with $8-9k worth of work. Either way, no way I'd put that much money into it to fix it out of pocket. You'd almost be better off spending 1-2k on the body parts and doing it your self lol

Unfortunately I know very little about even how one would go about removing any of these parts much less putting new ones on.

unless your going to keep the car forever, I don't see in wasting 11k to fix it. A yard is not going to give you anything for it. Either try to sell it as is or part it out. I'm sure if you part it out, if you have the time and skills to remove parts, you will have a lot of buyers for some of the more limited parts from the CLS6.

If I were to part it out and sell those parts individually I'd imagine I'd have to remove things like the engine/transmission myself. Given my limited knowledge, I'd likely pass on that option. I might just try listing it on ebay though and see what happens.

You can give it to me ,My b day is on the 23rd.

If you don't have the know how to fix yourself I would still hold on to it and maybe pick up a crx, civic,or a integra to play with.
where are you located and what would you want for the 6spd and everything needed.

2.5k isn't a bad price. I guess I'll go take some more pictures and throw it up on ebay if you think it'll sell for that much. I could turn that around into a down payment on something else I think. lol

Am I missing something? Judging from your pics that is hardly 11K worth of damage. Did the shop give you a breakdown of whats all the things that need repair? I would get a couple of more estimates because that is just way too much. I was in a head on accident with my 01 CLS the front was totally smashed and the frame was bent and the total amount to repair was 12K which included a new frame, radiator both fenders, hood, headlights, and many more parts that I can't remember now.

The items over $200 were: Front Bumper Cover: $270 Right Front Combination Lamp Assembly: $252 Right Fender Panel: $290 Windshield Glass: $193 Right Cowl/Dash Hinge Pillar: $882 Right Rocker Outer Panel: $477 Right Rocker Moulding: $208 Right Front Door Shell: $826 Right Front Door Power Mirror Assy: $260 Back Window Glass: $761 Right Quarter Outer Panel: $1202 Right Rear Combination Lamp Assembly: $257 Rear Bumper Cover: $277 Then there's about $371 worth of smaller things, $729 on paint/materials, $3349 on labor, and $556 on sales tax.

Some of those prices are way off like I said you need to get some other estimates.

Was the car rear ended in the past? The rear badges are all screwed up.

No, the previous owner did that to the badges. He also installed weird little lights behind the mirror on the windshield. I have no idea why.

all looks replaceable with new parts and some paint. the rear quarter panal is where ull need a body shop to fix and can get quite expensive.

either post it up on ebay/craigslist or part it out. u can get $1500 for the engine and trans by itself. then another few hundred for the interior. the rest is just the body parts where if u find the right buyer u can get 1000-1500 for

theres no way thats actually 11g of work.

anything above 3-4g id say f it and just grab another 6 speed. to much volatility in the car now; 1. quality of repair 2. unknown damages 3. value after repair 4. trade off of purchasing another car without accident damage for same price to repair

might be interested here, but it would have to reletively quick though (i might be getting a 6-speed soon, so i would not mind taking it off your hands especially for the motor too

my auto tl that i want to swap to a 6-speed is not long for this life (the automatic tranny)

as for a clean title, all i would worry about is basically just having a title

and hopefully you respond quickly, cause i would be willing to head out tonight to grab it (11 hour drive though but i be to work on monday though on time)

also btw, on the rear, do the tires rub when going over bumps (to know if i would need all four tires off the ground to tow it back, or a dolly would work instead)

If you can hold the tranny and parts to convert a 5auto to 6mt until my tranny dies, I'll buy them off you:P

and if your paint matches my paint (which is should since mine is silver as well) maybe I'll take the front bumper... mines ruined..

there is a lot of damage there 11K sounds about right

rear quarter
rear glass
rear quarter glass
rear bumper
possible rear sub frame
possible front sub frame
front headlight
front bumper
replace or rework front fender (if they can)
rework door
passenger side mirror
front bumper skin
rear bumper skin
new headlight
side mouldings
roof strips
repaint and blend entire side of car

I curbed my car trying to avoid another driver and that was $5K repair.

Things that they replaced

front exhaust pipe
subframe
a/c condensor
front bumper skin
lower control arm
rework front passenger fender
rework door where it made contact with the front fender
repaint blend entire left side of car
rear quarter window
roof moulding
various gasket kits

Alatar1313, since you dont have much knowledge in taking the car apart, might I suggest posting a thread in regions and see if any of the members can help you part out the car, and u can pay them. You would make some money of the part out, or post your location , maybe somebody whos close by you can recommend somebody.

Or you could just try to sell the car as whole in the black market, junk yard would make so much money off you because they would in the end part it out.

Def do consider your options, I'm sure somebody on Azine is nearby you and can consider helping you out or recommending somebody.

Azine unite!

Best of luck.

I verified this with nspec_ya4 and the car is in his garage, so this thread can be closed.

It worked out well for Alatar1313, and also saved me a ton of work.
