msd ignition questions

i been hearin bout msd ignition with the blaster coil, i was wondering what kind of gains in bhp it could bring, and i have intake headers and thermobloc, does that make it give more power? Is it worth buying, can you notice a difference in speed?

u don't need a MSD ignition. ur car has individual coil packs. the provide plenty of punch for your car. once you reach the levels of 350 tire horse then you might think about an up graded ignition.

he be correct, ur stock ignition, puts out a crap load of power, if u want to like seriously race, or have a crap load of HP/TQ, then upgrade.

Even then does MSD even make any parts that works for cars with COI (coil over ignition) setups?

I know AEM does, however, they've only got a 4 channel and 8 channel product.

You may wanna do a search on the forum if you really do want this, because allmotor's CL was the first to run turbo and he didn't bother doing this either because it wasn't worth it.

You can use the AEM unit (8-channel) but need to get new coil-packs as the stock ones have the integrated ignitor. I have heard of people using Honda CBR coil-packs with good results on S2000's and RSX's (both high-revving motors).

What allmotor replied with below your post is what I was referring to. AEM does make the part. It just doesn't do much for our cars. that's all.

The AEM unit is a capacitive discharge, so you get a much bigger spark. Also, I believe the AEM has two caps so one stores while the other discharges - works well at high rpms this way.

It won't really help an NA car unless you are pushing very high compression (12.0:1 or higher) and/or rev very high (9K to 10K rpms). It will really help a FI car.. preventing misfires and producing a better burn.

every so often i get a blinking CEL that doesnt stay lit...back when my cat failed this was a predecessor to a hard code which ened up random multiple misfires...so might my blinking cel that comes once in a while by from not enough ignition power?
