Mr. V1 almost got a ticket !!!!!! (LONG)

I was heading home from a friends house last night about midnight on I-78 Eastbound.
I got off onto RT-412 South to head home.
As I came to the light at the bottom of the off-ramp, it turned from green to yellow.
At this time of night, if you miss the green you have to sit there for about 5-minutes and wait for the cycle.
I thought I could make it so I quickly continued through the intersection and made my left hand turn.
By the time I was under it, lets just say the light was a dark shade of yellow if you know what I mean .

After the light I immediately made another left to head home.
The speed limit on that road is only 40 (I think) and it is on a slight uphill.
Nobody was around, (so I thought), so I dug into the sweet VTEC range and went from about 20MPH to about 70MPH in a short distance.

The road is only about 3/4 of a mile before there is another stop sign.
I slowed down, stopped, signaled and made another left on the way out to my house.
On this road I kept it at 35MPH because there are deer all over the place at this time of night and I didn’t want to have Bambie for a hood ornament.

I’m cruising at 35MPH and all of a sudden I see headlights gaining fast from behind.
Next I see the unmistakable RED & BLUE lights flashing.

I slowed up and pulled over and hoped that he would pass me, but he didn’t.
I switched the V1 off and started to get my info out.

The cop came up and asked for the usual License & Reg and I gave it to him.
He said that he was parked near the highway exit and saw me run the RED light and then BLAST up the other road at “excessive speed”.
He asked if I had been drinking and I told him that I had 2-beers at a friend’s house while watching a movie, but that I was quite OK to drive. (All true)
I told him that I was just really tired and I just wanted to get home which was only 2-miles up the road.
I said I didn’t realize the light was turning until it was too late for me to stop.
He took my info back to the car and made me sit there for about 10-minutes.
I mentally added up how many points this was going to cost me when I saw him get out of the cruiser and approach the window.

He handed back my cards (without a ticket) and told me to head safely home.
He said he was just checking to see that I wasn’t drunk or if it was a stolen car.
He said he wasn’t giving me a ticket because he saw from a distance that I stopped at the stop sign and signaled my turn when there obviously wasn’t any traffic for miles.
He said if I wouldn’t have stopped at the stop sign, he would never have been able to catch up to me.

His final parting words were: “Take it easy with this car”....”By the way you accelerated up that hill it looks like you could get into a lot of trouble with this thing”.

Thank you LORD........
I think I’ll take it a little bit easier through there next time because I probably won’t get away with THAT twice.

Counting my blessings,
Shawn S

Yeah, you got lucky; great story. I always leave my detector on and sometimes the cops send out a burst of microwaves just to see how my unit light up. Do you think he saw your detector? Do you think he would have ticketed you if he had seen your detector? What's your feel.

He definitely didn’t see the main V1 unit because he never looked up by the visor.
I don’t know if he saw the remote display on the steering column.

It was a township cop and they aren’t allowed to use RADAR here.
Only State Cops in PA can use RADAR.

I don’t think he could have got me for speeding because there is no way he could have clocked me.
I was expecting to get hit for running the RED and reckless driving or something like that.
