MPG tests

ok so here it is:

85highway/15city split.

Shifting at 3k and NO 5-7k

25.71 MPG

Shifting at 2.5k and a FEW 5-7k

24.71 MPG

Moral of the story....save gas by staying out of 5-7K.

Last sat I drove from my house(near harrisburg, PA) to the sema show in atlantic city, and back. Put 411 miles on one tank(light didn't come on till 397) I got 28.5 miles per gallon and there were a few times I got into vtec but mostly it was 2-3K in 6th gear. I couldn't believe that when I filled up I still only put 14.2 gallons in it.

I got 31.5 mpg on a 5A CL-S cruising at just under 80 mph in top gear while driving across Arkansas.

I did this same experiment a long time ago. I did an all city tank with shifts at 2-3K and got great mileage. The mileage dropped by about 10% when I spent more time in VTEC land.

So what did I learn -- drive the car and enjoy it. I shift where I want and don't think about mileage too much any more. Vroom Vroom...

I can't believe that kind of mpg in the 6 speed! I've never been able to get really good mileage in this car and I've had two 6 speeds.

Keep in mind that fuel mileage values are only valid if you use the low volume auto fuel shut off with your car parked at the same gas station, at the same pump, with the car pointing in the same direction and under the same conditions, ie, no passengers in the car.

Filling at station A and refilling at station B is only an approximation. And the slope of the ground can make a difference.

Maybe gas tanks are designed better now, but back in the 70's we had a true gas crunch, and I was a travelling salesman in probably one of the worst cars possible. A Z-28 camaro.

Whenever I had to fill up on the road, I asked the station attendant to bring out the floor jack. I placed it under the pumpkin, jacked it up high, and got almost two more gallons in the tank.

Note: do not do this with your CL or even any remotely new car. You can damage some emission controls. When the pump shuts off, you're done. Don't round it off to the next highest dollar unless you are only a dime or two away.

my mileage sucks lately bc of the super florida heat. normally shift around 3-4K, but i'm only getting ~21-22 mpg. i recently installed an icebox...besides the higher air temperatures, will that drop my fuel economy?

I just got 27.6mpg....

I just enjoy driving the car, and I don't care how many times I run the tach to the redline...enjoy the car.

The week it was 90+ and humidity was over 70% I still averaged over 25mpg...
