MPG

Does the intake really help your MPG. I know its supposed to be lately its been crazy... i have been hitting empty with only 190 miles. Thats freaking crazy...tahts like getting 13mpg while the CLP is supposed to be 22 i think. I used to ALWAYS get around 240 miles than needa new fillup...anyone know if AEM intakes or Denso are actually hurting the MPG? Or if there could be anything else wrong with mycar. Its just getting way too pricey...specially with gas prices these days.

I've been told the type S can achieve better gas mileage than the CLP.

Anyone heard differently ?

I would think the CL-P would have better mileage. That was the case with the LS, GS-R Integra models.

There is so much variability in MPG figures based on the type of driving (S MIRC or not). I went from wondering if I had a speedy gas burner to marveling at the range of gas mileage I get depending on the driving cycle that I run.

Examples:

80 MPH in well moving freeway, some hills, some slow areas, a few stomps -- 30 MPG+

Hard driving in the hills, stuck in stop-and-go, lots of short cuts in the city -- 13 MPG

Mixed driving (freeway and hills) cruising and stomping the pedal -- 20 MPG.

There are conditions that make the car get from 13 MPG to 30 MPG. I originally thought the people claiming 30 MPG (on trips) were full of it, but I've since matched that on some "road trips."

Urban driving (in city, rush hour driving, with some serious pedal stomping gives me the worst mileage)

(that's all I know)

Yea i have gotten a nice 30mpg taking some road trips to austin but i really dont see whats wrong with mycar... i know just by having the intake and denso s and with the suspension upgrades i liek to drive my car harder than when it was stock...but i dotn think i really am driving it THAT much harder than i did when it was stock. I mean getting 50 miles less per tank is quite extreme isnt it?

what numbers are people using to get MPG? What number for the total gallons in the equation?

I'm not sure what your talking about, but I hope I do (here goes).

I don't always run the tank to empty.

I try to go to the same pump (I have a gas station around the corner that I trust) for a fill-up. I reset trip counter A, and just go for a "drive". So far, I haven't had to return to a different station. I refill the car using the same pump 95% of the time. I just let it click off. Since I pay by credit card at the pump, I get a nice receipt with the number of gallons printed on it, and write my mileage down on it, and do a calc when I get home. Mileage / no_of_galons = MPG.

Did I miss the whole thing?

Could also be that reformulated gas that we are having to use here in Houston. I think i've heard from more than one source that they've noticed gettting poorer gas mileage lately.

I am no chemical engineer so I don't know how valid this is, any Chemical Engineers want to elaborate on this??

I agree. Our CL Type-S is rated the same as the Accord V6 (19 or 20 city / 29 highway).

The Integra Type-R gets the same as my Integra LS (26/31).

But, of course it's easier to achieve lower MPG with the Type-S and Type-R

MPG is very simply miles driven since last fill up divided by the # of gallons of gas you filled up with this time.

In other words:

#1: You fill your gas tank.
#2: Reset Trip odometer (A or B or both, whatever)
#3: You drive whereever however until you reach a point later that week where you think you should fill up the tank again.
#4: You fill up the tank and write down (or get a receipt of) how many gallons of gas you just filled up with.
#5: You write down the miles on the trip odometer since you reset it last time.
#6: Divide the miles from the trip odometer by the # of gallons you just filled up with.
#7: Reset the trip odometer so you can do it again at next fill up.

Very simple.
