What a crock. Motortrend has no credibility.

I hate to say it but best car should have gone to either Toyota Camry or BMW M3...maybe even the Nissan Altima....

2002: Ford Thunderbird
2001: Chrysler PT Cruiser
A couple of years before that, it was the VW New Beetle. See a trend?

I kind of figured that. Let's look at the cars of the year from the last three years.

Now come on...
The New Beetle is in a totally different class than the PT Cruiser. I've driven both as rentals for many days each. The PT was a total POS. The beetle (although a bit spartan...it's not a luxury boat!) was a great little car that made it obvious the engineers were, well, engineering when they designed it. ...at least it has SOME style. I'm not saying it's a really nice car or anything, but it is waaaaaay ahead of the PT.
That new Thunder-tird exemplifies the complete lack of historical & artistic understanding that plagues many American auto designers. It tries really hard, but it just has no "culture".
Just my 2 pennies!

Stage 1 Audi S5
I dont think its a bad car but the M3 is def. better. Apparently everyone likes the thunderbird though. I just read in MT that people in cali were paying 30,000 over the 38,000 sticker price. 68 K for the the thunderbird

I liked MT back in the day, when in 1990 car of the year was a Nissan 300ZX twin turbo, in 1991 it was the Mistubishi 3000GT VR4. Thats the MT i liked and missed!

1996 E-class Benz Dahm right
1997 5 series BMW Dahm right
1998 GS series Lexus Dahm right
1999 Beetle okay
2000 Chrysler 300 M okay
2001 PT crusier okay
2002 Thunderbird HELL NO
That car is average at best, not class leading or class changing (like earlier birds), that car I cannot believe it.......
