Most Honorable Death by a Hemi Magnum

I was on my way to drop some friends off after out in Adams Morgan last night. So I'm getting onto the B/W Parkway around 2:45am. As I'm about to merge onto the parkway from from NY Ave, I see two Magnums speeding in my rear view. Mind you, I have 2 friends in my car. So, in my mind, I know it's on. So, I let the 2 Magnums scream past me. Then, I drop it into 3rd and catch up. We run all the way to 495 exit. 1 of the Magnums wasn't a Hemi. But, the 1 that was the Hemi had a MEAN GROWL to it! The other Hemi dropped back and disappeared.

So, this Hemi had paper tags and big rims on it. It was pretty nice I might say. So, somehow I get in front of the Hemi. I pushing solid 115mph and he pulling on me. I'm in the left lane and he shoots over to the right lane. There's a car further up in the right lane. So, I know what Hemi is about do. So, while doing 115mph+, he shoots over in front of me before the gap closed up. He had to be doing a good 130. So, my female friend in the passenger seat is scared out of her mind and tells me she's scared. So, I slow down and let the Hemi go. I haven't really raced anyone a good while, so it was refreshing. Those Hemi's are awesome. I didn't realize it's potential. It's a MONSTA!!!!

I was thinking about that Hemi commercial where the dad shows his lil baby boy the engine bay of the Hemi. The dad said, "can you say Hemi?"

Headers would be nice about now. I'm still working on my springs and shocks. I'm tired of the hard crunches my car is taking with OEM suspension. Got some new springs, now just need some shocks and camber kit and need to install it all, which is more $. Looks like it might be cheap xmas for gifts for everyone.

cool. I got some H&R race springs. So, I know I'm going to need a camber kit. how would I know which +/- degree setup of the camber kit I would need?

Magnum: 340-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi V8

Me: 260-hp/crank, 3.2-liter SOHC V6

I think the Hemi still would eat me up even w/ headers. There's no telling what that guy did to the Hemi. Just the deep growl of the v8 was menacing.

You'll have to take it to a good alignment shop. Even w/headers you won't be able to hang.

I'd be hesitant to run with that powerful of a v8 at 120+ speeds... but that rarely happens... any range from 0 - 110 I'd be more than confident with.

The Magnum RT/300C will eat any CLS with bolt on's for breakfast. At any speed. You have to be turbo'd, SC'd or on NOS.

if anything the 300c would beat a 6spd with headers from a dig cause the 6spd is hard to launch, from a roll i'd put my money on the 6 speed though

According to Road and Track (yeah I know Mag Racing) the Hemi RT did 0-60 in 6.1 and 1/4mi at 14.6@97.4. Shows the top speed at 126mph. With their driving they got 12.5 mpg EEEK! Seems like a bigger boat than ours since their skid pad only registered .72g's. I know these are reality numbers but they can give you a "general" idea of what these bad boys can do.

Not really...Stock the Hemi is ~4400 lbs.

4400lbs / 340 HP = 12.94 lbs/HP

CL-s
Stock
3500 lbs (happy middle ground between auto and 6-sp CLS) / 260HP = 13.46

CLS w/ Headers (25HP), AEM CAI (10HP)
3500 lbs / 295 HP = 11.86 lbs/HP

As you can see, the CLS with bolt ons has less weight to push per HP than the magnum hemi.....also realize that the magnum is geared to pull 3500 lbs, which will kill it in a race.....

My $$ would be on the CLS with comparable drivers

EDIT: Meant to say these "AREN'T" reality numbers.

anyone know the gearbox ratio? I'm pretty sure the Magnum is capable of handling alot more torque. 340 whp 390tq standard.

Note: With a high-power Chrysler 300C due Spring 2005, Magnum should follow suit with its own SRT-8 packing the same new 425-hp 6.1-liter Hemi V8.

Not so. Your comparing HP. TQ is what gets you off the line. The RT has tons of it. (390) A modded CLS doesn't. It weighs 4125lbs but has the power to keep it in check. I have never seen a moded CLS dyno with only bolt ons have more the 210 lbs of TQ. The tranny is the same 5 speed auto with the same gearing as the 300C. Same rear axle of 2.82. The difference in towing from the 300C & RT is the 300C has only 370 TQ.

They are a piece of cake. Seems like everyone and their brother wants a piece of the
"CLEEPER."

Recent kills:

Boxter-S
Magnum Hemi
Cayenne Turbo <-- Closest race so far! That thing got off the line in a hurry
Lexus GS430. <-- The look of that guy's face when the blower was whining at peak boost as I blew by him was classic.

No way. They run mid 14's at 97-98MPH.

With just the normal bolt ons I was running 14.1-14.2 at 100 MPH

Hemi

Okay at a Mack dump truck makes numbers 400% greater than that... doesn't mean it is fast.

Yes they are quite quick for their size, but their weight and size kills them when it comes to acceleration. Also their engine totally dies on the top end. In an 1/8th mile sprint the Hemi might out perform the CL-S, just a little. But remember, even with that torque, you still have to get 4300lbs (driver included) moving. Also aerodynamics comes into play as well. The Magnum has a huge frontal area.

Dyno of an RT:

Dyno of my CL-S (I/H/E/Unichip) I added UR pulleys after this which should give me an extra 5-10whp and torque throughout:

While I haven't raced or saw a Magnum race, I have seen a few 300C's & they were running 14.1-2. One also beat me at a light all the way to 100. Some CL's are faster then others. I know I have a slow car.

The Hemi engines are made by DaimlerChrysler which manufacturers all Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Maybach. Mitsubishi...just to name a few American products they make.

Hemi engines are found in the Dodge Magnum R/T, Ram Truck, Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Chrysler 300C.

Ahhh....don't be scared of the Hemis.....at least not on the low end. I played with one to about 60mph....and he didn't know what hit him. I think the blower whine gave me away though.
