More power than expected from Comptech Exhaust! :)

Well, I called Comptech and talked to a guy by the name of Joe, I believe. I asked him why the exhaust added such a little amount of horsepower. He went on the explain that the headers and the exhaust together actually add somewhere in the range of 38-40 hp! Meaning that the exhaust adds somewhere around 10 hp, which is a hell of a lot better than 2~3 hp. This led me to believe that the investment was well worth it! Just some useful information for the forum.

i dont get why they wouldnt mention this on the comptech site....

are you certain, he wasnt giving you numbers @ the crank?

cause if its at the wheels that means people here with headers, exhuast and CAI are getting 51 HP at the wheels...add 20% to that, thats like 60hp to the crank, add it to 260 and we have 320hp CL's...damn, supercharger, would take you easily into 400 hp at the crank range....

i hope i am doing my math right...all this hp@wheels vs @crank is new to me...

No, call back and ask to speed with an engineer, not a sales guy. I've gotten info that was wrong from the sales people. When I call the technical people, I get the correct answer.

You're not getting 10 HP at the wheels or crank with the exhaust -- period!

The headers make a max of 24 HP at the front wheels of a CLS/TLS and with a 20% parasitic loss, this means the car would be making 30 HP MORE at the crank. The 2 HP of the exhaust would be about another 2.5 HP (I'm not sure if the 2hp is at the wheels or the crank -- but it is one of the two).

Ugh, this needs to be done in 3 stages...

1. A new new MSD or soemthing ignition to provider a more efficient and powerful burning ..

2. Better headers so the outflow of gases don't require extra power to push out, hindering the engine.

3. Free-flow exhaust to compliment the headers..

Since we got 3 already, after getting 2, I doubt the comptech exhaust does much since it's an axle back design and our exhaust is already free flow...

Exactly -- did you see the thread about the true amount of percent increase in roll bar stiffness thread I did. The salespeople at Comptech kept insisting that the bars had the same increase in stiffness that they did for the TL and CL, but the CLS has bigger bars. When I posed that to the sales guys, they got the engineer for me. He got the design specs and let me do the calcs.

The CLS sway improvement over stock: 13-20% more in front and 80% in back (per their engineering department data and a few equations).

The specs they give out are WRONG!!!!

I had 3 sales people tell me the same story when I called...

the same thing when you look at the springs...it used to say on there site about 1 inch lower. Now it says 1.25/1.0 for the accord/tl/cl...three different cars three different weights/distribution of weight/all lower the same...we all know how untrue that is

So if I told you the exhaust gave you 15hp, you'd believe me? I mean come on, to what extent does wishful thinking go?
Don't be so eager to jump on any bit of information, especially one that is obviously false since several people here have exhaust mods and get barely any gain (except from headers of course).
