More and more money going into maintenance?

I have a 2001 CL-S with 130k miles, just did a tranny fluid change at a Honda dealership. Nothing done on this car except for routine maintenance, and tranny fluid changes every 20k-30k miles. (tranny replaced with a rebuilt one at 30k miles before failure).

Honda says I need to replace the front and side motor mounts, at $460 and $271 respectively. Is this the "usual" dealer price to get it replaced? I don't see the engine moving in the bay when someone else applies gas, and don't see any fluid leaking around the front motor mount.

I plan to keep this car for 1-2 years. I guess a broken motor mount can damage other things around it.

The front one tends to collapse and the side one tears, or splits. Then the engine sits too low and then the tranny and axles don't line up right. The dealer is just looking for work. They are not expensive and can be done at home with pretty much every day tools. The front one is vacuum operated so you need to be sure to re-attach the line to the new one. Other guys can chime in but I forget what the car does with bad mounts, something like hard shifts, vibrations and so on.

Those are crazy prices, even for the dealer. You can buy those mounts online for ~$200. Install takes about 1-2 hours. The side mount is cake. The front mount requires supporting the engine.

Agree with civic, did mine in my driveway at night with a friend. Was able to do it with a jack, board, and basic hand tools in around 2 hrs

Yeah my motor mounts definitely need to be replaced soon as well. For those that have done it, which one's are better: The OEM mounts or the XLR8 mounts?

The verdict is still on the XLR8 mounts. I have them, but I still havent been able to get the passenger side mount to fit

I didn't do my front since the dealer changed me $25 when they were doing my clutch, but I did the side one... it was almost too easy. Order them online and do them at home for much cheaper...
