mods and insurance

i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this or knows anything about this....

what happens if you have aftermarket rims (like i do) and you get in an accident and one of your rims is fucked up...does the insurance company (either yours or the other guys company, depending on whose at fault) provide you with a stock rim? or are they obligated to match the rim you have on the other 3 corners of a car????

what happens if a car hits you or you hit a car and your front radiator gets pushed into the front header bank?? or what if a car hits you on the side and crushes your CAI??? does the insurance company replace the stuff you have or revert back to stock?? what about if you get rear-ended and your comptech exhaust gets fucked?? do they give you stock??

what happens if you have nice tires on your car like S-03 or toyo proxies and someone slashes them and you file a claim on insurance under your comprehensinve?? do you get the shitty MXM4 as replacements or do they give you what you had??

in the case of the header, if the insurance company tried to give you a stock front exhaust manifold, obviously it wouldnt work, so what happens??

You are supposed to notify your insurance company of aftermarket mods, in case you ever do need to file a claim. They'll then ADJUST your premium accordingly based on what you have.

With progressive, anything over 1000 dollars in mods, you're supposed to report. So for me, a CAI isn't even close to that number. And even if that number was ZERO, I'd probably not file it.

Tires... I don't think this would be considered a mod, since a tire is a need for a car. You'd probably just file as you normally would. Although, you'd have to have a pretty low deductable to file for a tire...

Good questions Jim.
No one here can really give you an honest answer though.
You need to call your agent to be sure what your policy covers.

In my past experience I’ve had RIMS damaged and they replaced them for the retail value I paid.
Incidentally, this was actually CHEAPER then what the factory RIM cost.
I don’t know what the exact replacement cost of a factory RIM is, but I imagine it’s probably 450 or more. When you’re running 500+ RIMS this will probably be an issue.

As for headers, CAI and suspension component I believe they must replace what was damaged, but don’t take my word for it.
And of course you’re going to need receipts for proof.

Stereo components are another story.
My company (Allstate) has what is called “Sound System Coverage”.
You tell them the value of your system and they charge you an extra fee to cover this.
Mine is like 20-bucks a year for 2000 extra coverage.

My insurance company had me fax them a picture and receipt for the rims and they said they would cover them. I think I pay like an extra $25 or something like that.

Make a copy of your receipts, take pictures of all sides of your car and mail everything in to your insurance company. Send return, receipt request.
