Mobil 1 before 10,000 miles READ!

I just got off the fone w/ acura becasue my odo reads, 7480. time for my 7500 check up. Wierd things is when i asked about mobil 1. they said NOT to use it before 10,000 miles on the car. The mechanic said they were some 'problems' before w/ acura's using mobil 1 before the first 10,000. And he said it would be safe to use it starting at 10,000 just to make sure everything gets seated properly and operating functionaly.
Just wanted to give u guys an update.

Same BS many dealer shoot off because they really aren't the most knowledgeable.

If the tolerances are such that this car takes a 10k break-in before changing from the Factory oil (same SAE rating or probably lower than Mobil 1) I don't want the POS.

Now we all know this engine isn't a POS and provided that you follow the 600 mile break-in schedule and meet all of the requirements set in the manual, all will be fine.

I love how dealers are so vague in specifying 'problems'. I think every make has had dealers who stated this same thing. I even heard of a Chevy dealer stating this about the ZR-1. Guess they didn't realize that it came from the factory with Mobil 1 in it.

I really don't think they were trying to rip me off because, i asked them if they had mobil 1 and if they would use it instead of the factory oil. If they would use the mobil 1 they would of made an extra 20 dollars so I'm not sure why he told me this. this is how he worded it " I know some acura's like integra's having problems if they used mobil 1 before 10,000, you might not notice it right away but it might hurt you in the long run." I'm gonna get my 7500 check up at 7:30 est. so i'll ask him what he mean's by "problem" .

That sounds like the biggest line of misinformed shit we've yet to hear. What the fuck do the Integra I-4 and the CL V-6 have in common besides a logo on the valve cover??? It's a wonder some of these "mechanics" can do a tire rotation without scratching your rims. Oh, wait a second. They can't.

Hmmm... Let me see. One of the service managers that I called about a Navi upgrade told me that the system was updated by the GPS satellites, and I would never need an update disk. (I will spare the name of the dealer).

The service managers, dealers, and mechanics should know that, "I don't know" is an acceptable answer!

Guarantee you that the NSX comes with Mobil 1 from the Facotry. Same engine as us (a little more tweaked granted but same at heart). It's no longer necessary to wait beyond 3,000 miles. Plain and simple.

Okay I got mobil 1 put in to my car. and my 7500 check up came to around 190. (there goes 190 I saved up for headers) when I asked the mechanic about mobil 1 they said that "honda of amereica" suggest that you don't put synthetic oil in the FIRST TIME you get an oil change (3750) and if you do wish to put synthetic oil in you should do this before 15,000. and once you put in synthetic oil you should put use synthetic for the rest of the car. They didn't have a mobil 1 filter like i wanted but instead used the honda filter w/ mobil 1 and asked me to comeback at 15004. since i had 7504 on the meter.
Well I got my wipers finally replaced and when i told them my car rattles this is what the mechanic reported : " car is equipped w/ after market stereo and entire car vibrates" wtf i didn't say my car was vibrating i said it rattles. errrr. .
I told them I also didn't need my tires rotated since i got this done w/ my springs which saved me about 25 dollars. over all I was kinda shocked to see my bill come to 190.
but i did get compliments that my road lamps looked much better than stock and that my car looks much more sportier w/ springs.
one last thing they had a TL w/ body kit and an optional comptech exhaust and springs and guess how much they marked the option. ...
3000. WOW wat a rip off.

Sounds like crap to me! I called the service manager at my dealer to see if they could put Mobil 1 (oil and filter) in for me. They said the oil was no problem but I would have to bring my own filter and they would not discount for it. So, I took the filter to Kwik Kar and had them do it with a $3 discount. Cost me $47 (dealer wanted $55). I'll do it again in 6000 miles (12k total). No problems at all!

I just got my 7500 mile (more like 8200)check up last night (after 11pm). The people were really nice about it. They changed my oil, checked fluid, rotated tires, cleaned engine, washed car, etc. But seriously it helps the wallet if you know someone in the service center. Don't think that I'm gloating, but all I had to pay for was the oil filter ($5).

BTW NOVAwhiteTypeS, who worked on your car at Radley?

Is the 7500 mile check-up really needed, or worth it? I have 6k now and just put in the Mobil 1. I was going to wait until 15k to have my check-up.

The reason that some mechanics/technicians recommend putting a few extra miles on the engine is basically because a new engine with low miles does not have fully seated rings (piston) and can develop "blow-by" if synthetic oil is used before the rings are fully seated.

I realize that certain cars come factory filled with full synthetic, but these engines ARE absolutely broken in and the rings are fully seated before the engine is installed into the car. Not to mention the fact that most high performance cars originally equipped with synthetic use hypereutectic pistons and some are even using gapless piston rings. This will further reduce the chance of any blow-by, even on a 'new' engine.

IMO, your mechanic gave you good advice. It couldn't possibly hurt to put 10K miles on your car before switching to synthetic oil.

Your dealer is uninformed. Lots of motors come from the factory w/ Mobil 1, as pointed out above. Some guys on the 'Vette forum bring stories of what the LS1/LS6 motors go through at assembly/testing: #1 after assembly, they're dyno'ed at WOT to redline (6850 rpm in the LS6's case) then #2 random cars are pulled off the line and "QA'ed" by assembly employees in real world conditions (translation - do your best Michael Schumacher impression driving to lunch all over Bowling Green) .

Anyway - sorry for the tangent, bottom line is any modern motor with decent manufacturing tolerances is fine to run with Mobil 1 from the start. Change intervals is up to the manufacturer - Chevy says 7500 miles for the 'Vette. I'll be changing mine after the first 1000 miles. Then after that? "Drive it like you stole it"!
