Minor whining noise at 55 mph?
I have recently noticed a low volume whine when my 2003 CLS 6 speed reaches about 55 mph. I am pretty sure that it comes from the engine compartment My wife says it sounds like a jet engine (but not nearly as loud). The sound is independent of engine RPM and anything transmission related (same sound in neutral as in any gear, at any RPM).
It has been really windy in northern New Mexico recently, and I also recently removed the front licence plate mount. I suppose it could be wind noise related to one of those factors, but I doubt it.
Anybody know what could cause this?
