They are universal. None are made just for our car that I know of other than OEM. I have the 18"x6" round resonator but it is hanging just a little too low under the car and hits speedbumps etc.. There is not enough room to tuck it under the car. I just bought the 22"x4" round resonator and will install it to see how it sounds. If it has the same sound control I will keep it.

Like ass.

Rasp heaven when cold starting. And between 2-3k you have nothing but rasp.

Other than that, sounds good.

so I guess magnaflow resonator is the way to go, but it scrapes.

just to make sure we're on the right page. I'm talking about replacing my Catalytic converter with a test pipe or the resonator.

The cat is one thing & the resonator is another.

I have an RT cat & the resonator I posted. The after market resonators are bigger than stock and don't sit up in the space the oem occupied perfectly so they hang a bit lower.

To minimize scraping I go over speed bumps at an angle, they either don't scrape or scrape less.

Thanks for clearing that out.

I am actually looking to replace my cat with the test pipe. that was my original question in this thread (that I posted unclearly) and that's why I asked if the CE light comes on and if there's something I need to make that go away.

The test pipe should accept the 02 sensor so no cel.

Go for it, I have yet to actually hear what a test pipe sounds like on a CL with a relatively stock catback that isn't FI.

Make sure to post up vids!

The test pipe will throw the catalyst efficiency low code if you do not use a modified spark plug defouler to pull the secondary o2 sensor out of the exhaust flow. If you put in an aftermarket cat you will still probably get the efficiency code. Whether or not you get the CEL from a non-OEM cat is hit or miss but unlikely if it is an OEM style cat properly installed. Your test pipe should not change the sound of the exhaust very much if you still have the stock resonator and mufflers. Removing the resonator is what will cause major rasp and a little more noise. You will get more noise from removing the mufflers but no rasp. As you get more noise you will get the dreaded Droning effect of the exhaust sound reverberating through the cabin between 2-3K RPM. Not cool. I have had great success with the 6”x18” Magnaflow resonator but it hangs and hits things. The resonator hit a 3” tall chunk of concrete on the roadway last week and threw it into oncoming traffic. I was only going 5MPH. I imagine it would have been pretty bad for the resonator if I was going any faster. I will put the 4”x22” on and hope for the best sound wise. I think it will work well. Good luck.

okay, so im looking to jump on the bandwagon and do this mod: replace the mid-muffler with an aftermarket resonator. im getting a couple of different kinds of resonators from this thread. someone said 2.5" piping with a 4"x18" resonator, the magnaflow #14414 or Vibrant 1140 2.25" Ultra Quiet Resonator with 2.25" piping. so which one is it? and does it drone on the freeway?

and whats the size of the piping?

and more questions, any droning on the freeway from just replacing the resonator? does it sound like comptech axelbacks by any chance?

I used to have an exhaust like this and honestly, you would be better off just getting some mufflers, or buying a cat back exhaust, all it does is adds a little bit of rasp to the exhaust, and a real slight tone, no drone at all, and when you first start up the car after it has been sitting for a while, it sounds like a bumble bee but really high pitched.

that will be loud if you want a better tone just get new mufflers or remove the stock mid muffler

you would probaly be better off keeping the stock piping and replacing the mid muffler with aftermarket res and getting headers i was going to do this but then I got magnaflow mufflers instead

I just removed the mid muffler right before the y , and its the cheapest alternative to get a little tone.. Im not sure what everyone else is running,as far as pipe size and wat not,but i got the J32A2 motor all stock as far as the exhaust system goes, AEM Cold Air, and it sounds great. little rasp round 2-3K but nothing remotly seriuos... The car still holds its classy figure ,doesnt coem across like a rice civic.. depending on opionons i heard here,im glad i did it, could be pipin size that wud increase the raspyness... Sound clips i dont have, but if the request is large enough,i can pull somethin off..
But then again just cut it out, its worth it, if your looking for a tone to seperate you from stock, and keep the cash in th epocket..

glasspacks? those dont muffle any sound at all.

another member told me to get the 2.25" in/outlet piping. he said since the stock piping is 2", the shoop could just slip the resonator over the stock piping and weld it that way.
if you get the 2" piping, the shop would have to widen the resonator piping a little to weld it together. the shop might charge extra for this, but best thing is to contact your local exhaust shop.

well thats what im aiming for but like many, i will be picking up a magnaflow resonator. i dont want anything that sounds like i put in a straight pipe instead of some type of resonator.

Everyone keeps talking about the rasp or whatever when you take out the mid muffler/resonator

I just took mine out yesterday and was very hesitant about doing so because of all the comments about it being a "bad" sound.

Honestly I love the sound especialy between 2-3k rpm I think from a pure enjoyment stand point it was the best $30 (taking out and welded in) I ever spent on my car .

Care to describe? Does it sound anything like the 3g TL guys when they do the Stage 3 exhaust mod? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpswQkRVr5o

or just a straight pipe

My neighbors wife drives an 03 G35 coupe and he thought that my car was his wifes car from the sound

That is what it sounds the closest in my opinion and everyone thats heard it says the same thing with out prompting them by saying does it sound like a G35

But I would do it worst case senario you have to put it back on ($30) but I garuntee you wont want it back on

Also the good thing about it is you turn your radio on 1/3 of the way and you cant hear it in the car.

PS any one looking to buy a stock resonator/mid muffler LOL

to each their own. people have complained about the droning but others really like the sounds thats made when the mid-muff is removed and replaced with a straight pipe. glad you like it.

Onese1f, dont compare the TL mid-muff removal to the CL. not even the 2G TL's mid muff removal sounds like ours.
if you want to put in one of those glasspacks in place of the mid-muff instead of getting a magnaflow resonator, then i say go for it. heck, you might have stumbled on something really good. no one has tried it so maybe it will sound like a comptech exhaust and its cheaper then a magnaflow resonator.

Do you have a CL-P or a CL-S Fluffy? You mind getting sound clips when you're free?
