Miatang or Wild thing??
I saw the wildest car in some time.
I was outside in my yard and heard this nice deep V8 rumbling exhaust note. I looked around to see what it was, but my first glance just caught what looked like a Miata, little black car.
After not seeing anything else I quickly focused on the little black car and sure enough it was the cause of the sound. Unfortunately I could get a close enough look to verify what it was.
Well yesterday will out running around, the weather was perfect and I had all the windows down. I heard that familar sound coming around the corner and there it was.
A black Miata, rumbling like a SVT Mustang with a nice throaty exhaust. I couldn't make the turn quick enough to follow, but it's from somewhere nearby. I'm betting it's got a Mustang 5.0 or 4.6 engine in it.
I'm sure it really flies and would be one fun toy on the street.

I seem to remember a while back some people took on a project and dropped a V8 into a Miata. Now, they basically had to remove the hood, but they got it to fit.
I doubt it was a V8 rumbling if it had a hood. Those cars are really fuggin' tiny.

Monster Miata
MM makes three models of Monster Miatas. The basic Monster package includes the Ford 302 cubic inch (5-liter) V8, Ford Worldclass T5 transmission with Thunderbird rear end, upgraded cooling system, Flowmaster dual exhaust, firmer suspension and a 4-point roll cage. The Mega Monster is the basic package with a supercharger and body kits. The third one, and less well known of the Monster family, uses a supercharged 1.8-liter Miata engine. My discussion here will only focus on V8-powered Monsters. I don't think it is appropriate to call a supercharged 4-cylinder Miata a Monster. It's an over-statement of the car's raw prowess

Okay, so anyone else want to question my auditory senses.
Don't tell me I don't know what a v8 Mustang sounds like.
Good thing no one wanted to bet on that. :P
agui and junionbean, thanks for the links.
I was tripping out when I first heard it and immediately looked elsewhere because I thought it must have been another car I missed and not the Miata.
Anyway, it's got to be a blast to drive around and a mind blower for anyone seeing it. Especially if they mess with it.

The handling is fine. I have a few miatas..one of which is a monster miata. The nose is a little heavy but with aluminum heads its just 150lbs more up front, and I have Koni's and heavier ground control springs. It handles fine.
The motor fits fine. In fact I have a blower on mine and there still room.

it fit's in perfectly and is actually a common swap.
I know a few people who have done it and even know a guy who did it w/ a supercharge to boot. They are really a f'ing blast to drive and the car still handles like a dream!

it actually doesn't way that much more at all, I think the motor is about 100 lbs heavier.
It's like the guys who throw LS1's into 3rd gen Rx7's. Everyone is always saying the handling has to get fucked up because of the big v8 but it's actually lighter then the rotary.
