Members with Polarg M-6s *READ*

OK, guys. I had the Polarg M-6s in the road lamp housings for about 2 months. This morning, I looked at the top of the housing (on the inside), there were heat marks just above the M-6s. I looked at another member's car, the marks were pretty bad (he's been having the M-6 for some time now). So if you want to keep the housings in decent condition, those M-6s have got to go.
Check the housings before it gets out of hand. Good luck.

How often do you drive with your lights on? Hopefully, those LED lights some people just ordered will be better or equal in looks.

I just turn them on at nights, so pretty much normal.

I have had M6's in for a year in November. No problem whatsoever. Are you positive you didn't touch the bulbs?

Got a question for these ppl that have M6's fail. Where do you live? Is the ambient temp where u live hot? Secondly, do u have the habit of driving with ur lights on during the day? Does day-time heat contribute to the messing up of the bulb? And adding to GTo's post, did u touch them or not? When I isntalled I wore gloves to minimize my skin touching it.

GUYS, I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BULBS, I'M TALKING ABOUT THE HOUSINGS.

Please read the post carefully. The problem is not with the bulbs.. The heat from the bulbs burns into the housings. I have no problem with the bulbs at all and would never know the problem with the housing if I didn't look. Everything appears normal. You have to look to see the problem.. Clean the lense, bend down below the road lamps level and look up (above the bulbs). You will see the marks.
And no, I didnt touch them. I installed the bulbs with a brand new micro fiber tower. And I do not drive around with the road lamps on in daylight.

Hmm, indeed I noticed a bit of burn in above the light.

I don't think I'll take them out though.

Im about to change my M6s to the Lexus GS 430 yellow fog lights. They look better in my car than the polargs.

So the housing gets cooked a little big deal. No one notices that stuff except you.

What did you mean by that? I thought I'd share what I saw so ppl would know before it's too late since it's not that obvious? Is that a wrong thing to do?

No it's not the wrong thing to do, it's the right thing to do. I'll check mine when I go back out. I did just notice this morning that one of my M6's is dead (after about 6 months). I'm thinking that going with "real" fog lights is what I will be doing..

Chill out, dude.

I agree with JRock - If the damage is negligible, then it's not
really worth worrying about. Scooter also mentioned that his
PIAA bulbs are also making marks on his road lamp housings, too.

So the choice is either: live with it, or go back to wussy looking
bulbs. I'll take the former.

Mine made a little mark above the bulbs as well after about 5 months...not too bad yet. I would much rather having some real fog lights there. Does anyone know if they have some that look like our HID's? I think they have some that are HID's right but they are probably expensive as hell. So I guess there is no way to have someone make the driving lampd into real fog lights...like redo the inside of them so they can take the heat? I just like how they fit inthere and if I got real ones they wouldnt fit as well.

I understand that some of you may have heat bulges or discolorations in the lens, housing or bulb itself. I just reiterated that I have none of the above. The bulbs, lenses, and housings all look normal.

You are correct to warn us and I thank you for that. It made me go back out there and look but as I said no problems here yet. I also WOULD admit it if were true! There is also some concern in putting in a bulb with three times the wattage rating of the previous. I think that the stocks look so lame that they should either be changed or turned off!

I just got my Polargs. Went out to put them in and noticed my lens is broken. I guess I'll put in some real fog lights.

I noticed the same thing on mine, I ordered the new Leds so maybe that would solve the problem, the bulbs are still in, i think i will keep them untill i find a solution.

Mybe its a venting problem, I know there is a little hole in the housing, it may need a bigger or one more to allow the extra heat to escape the housing. just a thought

When you get the LED's in, please post the pics. I'd like to see what they look like.

hey silver....i noticed some of that heat burn on the top of my cover. kinda whitish.....but mine's not that bad yet. i guess it is due to the heat of the bulb. i have the piaa19224, i think they are. but i'll leave them on there for now...until someone finds a good replacement.

Well, it seems like there is a trade-off for the hyperwhite look from M6 , only a couple lucky ppl are not effected by the issue, i.e. NovaWhiteTypeS and gto2050 (your sn reminds me of the pair of JBL GTO930 6x9s in my rear deck ). Personally, I would get real fog lights. The only problem is getting the right ones so it looks neat in the bumper. KVit showed me a really good looking real HID fog light kit. It only set y'all back .. $570
I'm also waitting out come of the LEDs that several members ordered.
If the LEDs dont look good and I cant find any fog lights, I just remove the housing and put black mesh screen there (already built). More air to the CAI.

No, it was a different set. It is way out of hand so I didn't bother to remember. If you are interested, I'll check with Kvit for ya.

The Sylvania Henarc HID kit is prolly that one... but it's a Driving light kit, not a Foglight, right??

I too notice heat marks on the upper part of my housing. I also noticed on the bulb there is this black spot probably being so close to the housing. I don't think it'll do anymore damage as to melt the housing. It'll probably burn the bulb before that happens. I took them out and have replaced them with the new White LED 10W that was posted on the forum from AutoDynamics. I'll be testing those tonight to see how bright they are. Should be better than the OEMs 5W.

I just went downstairs and got on my hands and knees with a flashlight and looked really closely at the top of the reflector. I'm telling you that after almost a year, there is not so much as a smudge above, behind, or beside either bulb. The bulbs are sitting straight as an arrow right in the middle of the hole. No bulges, no nothing. I almost wanna go take pictures so you will believe me.

OMFG. Now I just checked mine, you asshats*, and there's a tiny bit of discoloration directly above the bulbs. Like it's not quite as shiny as the rest of the housing. Too bad I don't even care.

*You're asshats because I actually took the time to check mine when I don't even care.

Now tell me, what kind of communist is going to get down on the ground and check the top edge of the foglight holder for spots and actually WORRY about it? No one. Bleh.

How friggin bored were you to actually find that in the first place?

well, other ppl take their time to find rattles and other craps. Since I dont have rattles, I figure I check for something else.
But hey, we accomplished something in the sense that you actually cared to look, buttcap

Actually, I was looking at JSuppi's car and he was saying something about his M-6s expended then went out. So I bent down and looked. Dude, his is totally messed up. The burnt mark is bigger than a quarter. Being paranoid, I looked at mine and found it.

It seems like the majority cares, the rest is just too rich to care .

Don't waste your time with those LEDs from AutoDynamics. They suck if you're looking for brightness. The stock ones are even brighter.
