Me vs. G35 coupe
Well, I'm always on here and never post anything so I figured why not start now. Instead of posting a kill (like the punk kid driving a new BMW 325ci who I wasted as his hot girlfriend laughed at him) I decided to post a death. By a G35 auto. Driven by a girl. I really hot girl. So, I'm rolling around here in Lexington, KY and it's about 27 degrees out and after 1 in the a.m. I had already stomped some kid who was trying to beat me to a lane merger earlier in the night so I was feeling pretty good. I see some tail lights up ahead turning onto Man O'War and I thought it was an RSX at first so I figured I'd go mess around with it. As I'm catching up to it I see it's a G35. I happen to be a fan of G35s and whenever I see one I try to run it. So as I'm pulling up to a red light I look over and I think it's some young guy with long hair trying to look cool. As I come to a stop I realize that it's a girl who is absolutely money. Right as I'm thinking "Wow, this chick is..." the light turns green and much to my surprise she takes off. Of course my natural reaction is to mash the pedal to the floor, and quite possibly for the first time since I've had my car I forgot to turn off traction control (when it's not wet outside). So instantly she's a car ahead of me. We run up to 85 and she never gains any more than that car she had from the beginning. She lets off and gets in a turn lane and gives me this wave and a look like "You're not so cool now, are you?" I wanted to chase her down and talk to her, but of course I didn't have the balls to do it. Even though I know G35s are faster than my car I'm getting pretty confident about running G35 autos. The only other time I ran an auto I was side-by-side with him until 80. It's a welcome change from getting stomped by 6speed 350Z's.

Nice . . . death by long hair . . . hot long hair.
What kind of wheels do you have . . . some lighter wheels would turn the tide as well.
Anyway, can't always be on top. :P

What do you guys think about headers? I know the OBX ceramic headers are pretty much trash, but I was thinking if I bought some and sent them off to jethot and got them coated then I would have reduced heat under the hood and not have to worry about the ceramic pealing off and the steel underneath rusting. Just a thought.

FYI . . . light weight wheels and tires will get you there too. With just that set up I was already beating times of guys with headers or CAI.

Don't believe everything you hear on the board. 1st of all, OBXs are not ceramic unless they have something new. Secondly, the reason the OBXs fail is because the dingalings bend the hell out of them during installation which can cause cracks in the welds. You just have to be patient putting them on. They're definitely worth $299, spend the money elsewhere if you have help on the installation. Over 1.5 years and no problems yet with mine.
BTW: With OBX Headers and CAI you will edge out the G35 Auto by.2-.4 in the quarter and maybe tie or beat the Manual only slightly (that is of course given equal drivers). After about 95mph they start gaining though...

Ceramics
SS look better but the Ceramics should not expel as much heat in the engine compartment. Daloid is the same ebay guy I bought my SS OBX Headers from. For $249 the Ceramics are a great deal. $10 p/hp = hell of a deal!

What about the warped flanges and bolt holes that need to be enlarged to even bolt the things on? O2 sensor bungs that aren't placed correctly and sit against the oil pan or transmission? There are many documented quality issues with OBX's product. I'm sure most of them are just fine, but when you place your order you unfortunately don't get the option of "will these fit the first time" vs "i'll need the dremel and a torch to install these."

Mr. Steve is right about bolt holes for sure. I had to file mine for a few minutes. The O2 sensor and SS rust has not been an issue. Over 1.5 years and they still look new.
I guess to sum the OBX Headers up in a flash, you should be or have someone to help you that is technically saavy and a little creative maybe. I didn't mind tinkering for a couple of hourse to save the money.
FYI: A Dremel Tool with a few grinding pads would make your day easier on the install. I had to enlarge one of the bolt holes and ground the exhaust port flanges.
So Mr. Steve? When I'm ready to sell these Headers do you think they will bring a good price since they're "Modded" to fit perfectly.
Later,
SM
