Me vs. 04 STi (kinda)

Well, in response to my promise in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0&page=1&pp=25 , I ran my slightly modded (comptech headers and icebox) 01 CL-S against my cousins bone stock 04 STi on Sunday night. And it was a fucking joke. I would've been pissed if weren't for the fact that I was drunk. Anyways, I tried to do everything in my power to even the odds. I made him fill up his gas tank before we raced (my gas tank was full too). I sat in the car with him to give the weight advantage to my CL (as mentioned, I was pretty drunk so my other cousin who is about 280lbs was driving my car, but me and my cousin in the STi combined weigh about 330.) I instructed my cousin who was driving my car to try a couple runs in full automoatic, then a few in SS. Not even close. We ran like 5 or 6 times from the 10-30 range all the way to the 70-90 range, and everytime the STi pulled out out a good 4-5 car lengths, no problems. I took a video with my camera if anybody is interested in hosting it. It was really disapointing, and my cousin had a shit eating grin on his face the whole time. I mean, I knew my car didn't have a chance, but to see it get beat over and over again really sucked. All I've been thinking about the last few days is trading my CL in on an 05 GTO so I can get some revenge...

I mean no offense but what did you expect? Those cars are suppose to be faster than yours every single time. I think you may have picked the wrong battle. You need some sort of FI to compete in that league. Don't feel bad either, I'm sure your car is a 14 sec car which is still respectable within "your" class of cars. I don't think the STi is as luxurious as the CL and I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be.

Keep your chin up bro.

your cousin probably doesnt know how to work your CL-s like it should be....

i recommend you rematch while you're sober, and..

try rolling start from 20 (gate shifting keeping it in first gear)
from 50 (in SS 2nd gear)
from 80 (in SS 3rd gear)

the results might be different, but you'll still lose regardless... maybe from 50 you'll hang a little better

Stock WRXs I believe.....STI I find it hard to believe....unless the STI owners out there in WA can't drive to save their lives. Mid 13's quick, but I've seen too many modified WRXs and stock to mildly modded STIs pulling high 12's-low 13's here in the North East to thnk you've NEVER lost to one yet.

Yes, but they are running low ETs with trap speeds around 102-103. I haven't lost to an EVO or an STi yet either.

I run 13.4@105. If the STI doesn't drop the clutch at >5k rpm and jump out 3 cars on me at the beginning then it has no chance. I'm not saying I COULDN'T lose to one - just saying I haven't so far...so don't at me!

You are right that most STi drivers don't push their cars like they'd need to be to post those sort of results.

Also, there's a big difference between a street race and strip race . . . on the street, especially from a running start the STi looses it's biggest advantage . . . traction on a prep'd strip.

I've run a few WRXs and one STi . . . only one of the WRXs held their own (before my icebox) and the others lost . . . the STi was a good one, but was from a running start and was close until I got in to VTEC in 3rd gear and began to pull him . .

Lastly, I think there's still a post on the Dallas Areas thread where Mantis in his CLS lined up against Inferno's STi . . . this was on a strip . . . Inferno jumped well in front of Mantis off the line and it looked like it was all over, but once Mantis got in to 3rd gear his pulled out the win on the big end . . . yes, Mantis was spraying, but he was up in smoke at the line
