McLaren F1 Spotting in Maryland

Yesterday was the third time that I saw the car in two weeks. It was a red McLaren F1 the baddest car I've ever seen. I saw it in front of Cloverly safeway on New Hampshire Ave in Silver Spring. I never thought I'd see one of those in. WOW!!!!

I am sure you will see this fellow soon, he said the car is a 2000.
It's bright red, you can't miss it. I can't believe this guy lives by us. The car is Out of Hand!!!! Keep your eyes and ears open. It will blow your mind.

Well he's wrong......McLaren F1 production ended in May 98 with 100 cars total built.

He said it was a McLaren F1 GTR I don't know what the "GTR" is. He had Tennessee tags.

There were 28 GTRs built between 95-97 and very few of those came to the U.S.

isnt the gtr the racing version of the mclaren f1 (longtail etc)? It should have looked like a full blown race car.

You'd think if the guy dropped 800k or so on a mclaren race car he'd know the year it was made...no such thing as a 2000 mclaren as beltfed said.

The GTR was developed so people that owned Mclarens could actually compete in the FIA GT Series and eventually the Le Mans 24hr. The 95 and 96 GTRs looked pretty much like a standard Mclaren F1. In 97, the car got heavily upgraded due to changes in the Le Mans 24hr and GT Series rules (body enhancements, new tranny, and it lost a good amount of weight, etc).

School em Beltfed. The Mclaren is the greatest performance car ever built. No turbos, 2200 lbs, no waiting. Nothing could touch these cars at the time and cars now still can't mess with it.

How about 0-60 in 3.2, 0-100 in 6.4, 0-150 in 12.8 and 0-200 in 28 secs. Top speed 240mph.

Gordan Murray and crew were well ahead of their time. The car was concieved at the airport while waiting for their plane.

He's got the Black escalade on 23's
It definitely wasn't JD either because the guy was 40 and white.
I've seen Dixon at Buffalo Wings and Beer playing pool-HA.

McLaren had a showroom in London up until at least two years ago. I don't know know if it's still open (I searched and couldn't find any info). It was weird- I was just walking around the city, looked in a building and saw a F1 sitting there. This was in '01 so maybe they hadn't sold all of their inventory by then.

The showroom had one car and one salesperson (A hot blonde lady). She let me in to take a couple pics. Two German guys came in while I was there and one of them actually bowed down to the car (half-jokingly). The car is truly amazing to see.

While searching to see if the showroom was still open, I did find this video (10MB) somebody took of the car in that showroom

there's also one still for sale here in the US here

my pics:

If there were only a few in the US, it would make sense at least one would be in the DC area.
