maybe i'm just scared.

when i crank my car up, the d5 light comes on. it comes on, then turns off after a few seconds. i have never noticed it doing that before. is this a sign? or am i just scared? also, i have a feeling my tranny is having suicidal tendancies. in 5th gear the rpm's fluctuate between 50 and 100 rpms. it may have been doing this all along but, since i purchased my exhaust, i have began noticing it. i took it to the dealership to have the 105k maintenance done. i had the transmission flush and filter changed at that time. it stopped for a while. now it's doing it again. there are no leaks and fluid level is normal. this car has me scared to drive it now. i've been driving my bmw for the last three days.

you pansey, the light has to come on like the rest of the dash lights to let you know they are working.

The fluctuation is a problem though, I think it's the EGR?

no the park light and the d5 light are the only two that light up. the shifter is in park. so i can see why that light is on, but why only the d5 light?

Because the D5 light is what alerts you to transmisison problems. I'ts just like the check engine light coming on at startup to let you know it's working, so that when it turns of fyou know nothing is wrong.

Mine does it too. When I crank the engine, both the P and the D5 lights come on, and the D5 goes off as soon as the engine starts. I think it's always done that though.

50 and 100rpms??!! Didn't think it was possible to get that low w/o stalling the engine...

Do you have an intake on it or just exhaust?

no at 65 mph the engine is turning around 1800 rpms. every once in a while it will jump to 1900 rpms. it isn't noticable without the exhaust, or looking at the tach. i have an aem intake and hks exhaust.

Check out what your car does between 40-45 mph....

It does exactly the same thing...that's 4th gear.

It's perfectly normal...

But...what are you doing driving the speed limit at 65?!?!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe that's just the torque converter?? Does it do it when you are going up a slight incline? Mine does it going up hill all the time but I'm in mountainous Colorado.

well i live in tallahassee. the only city in florida that is only hills. it only does it in 5th gear. oh and in tallahassee the police to civilian ratio is about 1 to 9. so speeding will get you caught.

Damn bro! I used to live in T-Town! I know what you mean about the cop-ers though. There are so many there. What do you live there? I used to live out in the Buck-Lake area. I graduated from Lincoln High back in '95. Did you go to school there? I go back every few years and visit with some friends.
