manual transmission digital gear display

I was just thinking of how u sm X miss a shift into the wrong Gear when racing or down shifting especially when all pumped up and excited. so i was just thinking maybe there was smthing that wud tell u or display what gear is enagaged and maybe it wud be possible to tap into that to prevent an engine overev @ that speed
but I know its just too complicated.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

That brought me to trying to find out some rig that can identify the engaged gear, knowing fully well tapping into that signal is another STORY.

I would really like to know if any of u guys have any experience with this.

I will like to know if this will wrk on our cars and if there is already any one out there already other than this one.

I wanna think it will work since it works using position sensing from a refrence point=neutral

this is the link:

That's a pretty tricked out setup.

Sounds cool but with a gear display on the shift knob like that I would imagine is just about useless...

Isn't that where your hand would be.

I don't think your thread was focusing on that aspect but...I don't know how you could rig that up.

That's cool.

Kind of neat effect.

B&M makes some good stuff.

You think you could adapt something like that to the CL?

See...that is really handy for that application!

When I rode bikes...I always wished I could have had something like that.

That's perfect...

With a mode like this...

Would it just map into the ECU or something?

well i guess we neva know till we try.

but i get ur point abt the hand covering the display but i am preety sure it cud be displayed else where like on the console/odometer for example. Especially if it wud proof to be useful.

Ha ha...yes...you could be the first...a pioneer.

Yeah I like that idea...sounds like a cool mod.

What about like a gauge for the A-pillar?

That would be really slick.

I think your reaching & making a simple car more then it is. On the CLS it's not really needed, or economical.
If you miss shifts on a car that has a simple, short & easy to drive clutch setup(CLS) you need to learn how to drive better.

Honestly if your racing or driving hard you dont have time to see what gear your going into. It should all be natural. If you have time to take your eyes off of where your driving to look at a display to see what gear your going into your driving too slow or arent paying attention to what your doing.

if your racing..chances are you know what gear you are in considering you start with the first one... or immediately go into a lower one...

have you driven a stick? you feel what gear you are in

I was thinking about this idea the other day , not on the shifter but on the dash somewhere so you wouldn’t have to look down. Say similar to the way my Legend's automatic gear selector is setup but who knows it might end up just being a distraction.

I know what gear I am in by the feel of the motor and RPM's vs. MPH

But I still think this would be a neat mod if it didn't involve too much work.

The position on the gauge cluster is not convenient for me.

On the A-Pillar would be my ideal spot...something more at eye level.

Agreed, but there has been a time or two (mainly down shifting) when it would be nice to have a display.

^ Agreed.

Which is why I think this would be nice to have as a gauge in the A-pillar.

I think when you are getting on it, you won't have time to visual check unless it was pretty high up by the windshield...I even have to keep the tach in more of my peripheral vision as it is. With the CL-S the only gear that still gets me once in a while is 5th as my past Integra, Corolla, and Celica had that gear 'all the way' to the right and up. With my present set up a light touch definitely helps.
Little off topic, but I do recall tapping into the ECU of my GS-R and having three LEDs come on sequentially as V-tec, then 2ndry manifold runners and finally redline hit. That was kinda cool as the sound of the V-tec and the 2ndrys combined w/ the lights gave a nice effect and of course the red redline light helped avoid those embarassing rev limit bogs as I would often overdrive even at 8600 rpm. I think I used yellow for V-tec and green for 2ndrys. The CL-S only has single manifold runners, right?
