Hey...

I have a 2001 CL-S and I am trying to find an 03' manual transmission to install in mine. Any idea where I could find one? Thanks.

A swap hasn't been done before. Heard it cost alot of $$ to do. Alot more involved then just the tranny. Would be less money to take the hit, & trade up for a 6 speed. A totalled 6 speed would be the best option since it has everything you would need in parts. I remember someone selling thier wrecked car in black market. Not sure if it was a 6 speed though.

I sure hope you’re “good with tools” because you have quite a job ahead of you.
Take lots of photos.

You need, new ECU, disable VSA, new LSD (new driveshafts)... etc, I think it can be done but do your research first! get the latest HELMS maunal first and compare what is needed to be done.

As these these guys said... you'll need more then a tranny do a swap. The list that Nashua laid out is only a percent of what you'd need. If you do a search... this was discussed... there are about 20 items you need to replace or swap to do this... and the estimated cost was was over $10k, not counting time to troubleshoot everything. It would be cheaper for you to sell your 01 and buy an 03.

With that said.. the answer to your question would be to check a junkyard for a wrecked '03 manual CL-S.

I have a friend of a friend that just picked up the tranny w/ axles, driveshafts, etc. for 1200$ at a local wreck yard.

And honestly, it shouldn't be to difficult. Atleast i've switched auto's to manuals in civics and tegs before and it's not super difficult. This will be more involved but if you or someone you know well knows what they are doing it shouldn't be too difficult.

10K? that' may be overexaggerating the cost quite a bit. Maybe if you bought everything brand new from the dealership and had a dealer install it? half of that if you pick it up off a junkyard and have it installed in some average shop somewhere.

its easier in those cars. we need more than just the basic items. if you have a CL, there is no point in doing the swap. now if you have a TL, then it makes more sense. i dont know though, i think i rather have VSA. after all, a LSD will not help when you lose it!

Here is my info. I did research on this, as I thought of doing the same to my car. The parts brand new from Acura should not cost more than $5K, if u have someone with a wholesale licence price should be somewhere around the price range of $3K. I never looked into junkyards for the parts, although it does make more sense. The car would fall apart before the 6MT does, it is better to have the age the same of all parts.

Now ghander, if u are saying that ur friend picked up the major parts for $1200 that just gives us more incentive to us '01 owners to save up the extra $$$ to do a swap. Hey if ur friend is doing a swap, why don't u get him to post up on here.

Frankly if no one does a swap, then someone should do a reinforcement. I would have sent my trany out to
Level 10 ( ) if they really backed up their product with a real warranty. $hit if I am gonna spend $$$ on a tranny rebuild then I should also get a warranty that should cover somewhat the lift of the tranny, right, 100K. I mean it is stronger than stock, so it should outperform stock.

I'll document it for you. It's probably a little ways away from happening but he came across the parts and couldn't pass it up
