Man my arms are TIRED !!!!!

THREE washings of the car with DAWN to remove all the dirt and dealer wax. (2-hours)
CLAYBAR of the entire car with the ZAINO CLAYBAR. (2-hours)
Wash again with ZAINO Z-7 (45-minutes)
Dry with “The Absorber” (30-minutes)

After that I mixed up a batch of Z-2 wax with the new ZFX “Quick Dry” additive and did one coat over the whole car.
Wiped it down with FOUR cotton towels and she looks GREAT.
If my fingers recover, I’m doing another THREE coats tomorrow.

Now it’s time to crack open a Beck’s Dark and sit down and watch a DVD or two.
I hope I have enough strength left to pick up the remote.

So I have three what are pretty basic questions about car washing:

1) Drying - Are cottom towels "the" way to go to dry? I just got "The Absorber" and it seems to work pretty well, but interested in thoughts on this.

2) Soap - What is the best type of soap for washing a car? Is Dawn the way to go or is that too harse for every other week washing?

3) Washing - How about sponge vs. washing mit vs. whatever to actually scrub down the car?

Who things what is the best? I figured I would ask in this thread as you seem to be the master ShawnS :-)

Which is why whenever my CLS gets here it is being locked up in the garage for the first week. Have to give her a nice cleaning right away. And don't want to have to do it all in a weekend. Gonna be nice having a second car

Here you go provench:

OK class……Sit down and let “The ZAINO Master” talk.

WASHING:
Only use DAWN for the first wash before ZAINO.
It will safely strip ALL the WAX off the car.
I did it three times because I wanted to be sure.
I was doing the CLAYBAR right after and I wanted to be sure as much dirt as possible was off the car.
You DO NOT want to get dirt on the bar when you are “rubbing down” the car.
After you get several coats of WAX on the car you should NEVER need to use DAWN again unless you want to go back to square one.
After the initial cleaning I use ZAINO Z-7 Car Wash Concentrate which is safe for the finish and has Z-2 WAX in it.

WASHING:
I use small cotton towels for washing. Bathroom hand towels.
They’re White Fieldcrest/Canon brand 100% cotton as recommended by Sal Zaino.
I use about FOUR each time so I don’t have to use a dirty one as I work down the car, top to bottom.

DRYING:
I have been using the “Absorber” for years.
They are great.
I actually have several for different parts of the car.
One for the body, one for the wheels, one for the tires and one for under the hood.
That way none of the finishing products are transferred to where they don’t belong.
For example, you don’t want tire dressing on the windshield…..do ya ????

Class dismissed.

Give me an “A” for ANAL

Nicky Pass,

This was the FIRST application and that always takes a little longer.
I agree that applying further coats are MUCH easier.

But CLAYBAR the entire car in 30-minutes ??? What are you Superman ???
No way….I take 15-minutes on the hood alone.

And get some ZFX, you don’t need to use Polish Loc anymore and can do multiple coats in ONE day.

Shawn, if you run into a situation in the future where it looks like the Dawn isn't cutting the "crud" that the dealer put on, get a good wax/sealant removal product.

You can get them under various labels and a single go will allow you to go straight to the Dawn and save you from the "muscle beach party hangover"...

If someone has used some really nasty “sealer” instead of POS wax, you might save a lot of hassle by first using:

DUPONT PREPSOL WAX REMOVER

OR

http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.j...ext=paint+prep

PAINT PREP

”PAINT PREP REMOVES OLD WAX AND POLYSILICONES FOR A CLEAN START
If you've been using other brands of polish and wax, they may contain silicone and synthetic oils. Our car care system doesn't bond with these silicone-laden products. It's important to use Paint Prep to remove all of the old waxes, polysilicones, and oils so our care products can properly bond to the surface. Paint Prep is easy to use and is safe for vinyl and rubber. This is also the perfect prep for any painting project. Eliminates fish eyes that occur when silicone isn't cleaned from a surface before applying paint. Don't let your paint project be ruined by skipping this simple yet important step. Proper preparation is 90% of a good paint job. Paint Prep is not for use on glass. Large 35 ounce bottle includes our Finest Sprayer.”

Sometimes the Dawn will NOT Remove all of the junk of a synthetic protectant.

Also, when you hit the ZFX, 3-coats is the max per day. If you like the shine now, you will really like the ZFX. If you can take the time and do a Z6 between coats, you will impress the $hit out of yourself!!!

Have fun!

Buy everything here: http://www.zainobros.com
You can get the Claybar from them as well.

It’s not cheap stuff, but it IS the best.

OH….And be sure to read the FAQ there before you reply with 20-questions.

It's not THE best. It is one of the top picks though. You'll have to excuse Shawn, he's been sniffing the stuff a bit too long.

I've been using the Absorber for about 7-8 years - I love it. Also, I like Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash. You can get a gallon of it really cheap at Target.
