maintenance for my car....
maintenance for my car....
I have a question... the last time i took my car in at 18,700 miles to my acura dealership I paid for a 30,000 mile service.... which I had done... now im at 26,500 miles almost 27,000... my maintenance light flashed for a bit and now its solid and I havent had any oil changes or anything like that done to my car since then.... the bill for acura was pretty expensive... basically $450... and I cant afford that bieng only 19... I wanted to know exactly what I should do now to my car and where a good place to go is other than the dealership... I live in the heart of Los Angeles and there are tons of places that I see all the time... like firestone, EZ lube, Kragen.... can any one recommend a good safe place to take my car into? and tell me what I should have done at this point to my car? I dont know anything about cars, and im trying to make my CL last as long as possible... Also, a reccomendation of how much I should pay for it? And should I have anything done specifically to my transmission.... like a flush or somthing, because I know there faulty and I have an auto.... Thanks alot for any responses, I really need the help.
I would go get an oil change IMMEDIATELY. Bring it to an Acura/Honda dealer, it's about $30. They are reliable, you never know what you will get at a quick lube place (however, it will probably be cheaper there).
8,000 miles on dino oil is not recommended if you "want the car to last for a long time". Switch to synthetic if you are going to wait that long inbetween changes.

Yes, deffinately get the oil changed ASAP. It is common to get oil changed every 3000-4000 miles on regular oil, and 5000-7000 miles with synthetic oil. Might also want to rotate/balance your tires, which is a good idea to do every other or third oil change. You should be able to take it just about anywhere to get these services done, costing about $30-$50 depending what brand oil and services are done. Just make sure you watch your car through the service window so you know they are doing what you're paying for (I don't trust other people).
the maintenance light doesn't mean anything. it's set to come on every some odd miles as some kind of reminder. you can reset it yourself by holding down the 2 buttons while starting the car.
does your car have any problems? if not, just reset the light and maybe get an oil change if you're at your next interval.

Maintenance Required Light and Maintenance Schedule is stuck in the FAQ forum here:

I change my (non-synth) oil every 7500 miles, just like the schedule says... Probably could do it more frequently, but I'm sure the engineers at Acura are smarter then me...
