So I am sitting a light this morning during my commute and my maintenance light comes on. Very random as the car is running fine and I have recently checked my fluids and they are fine. What are some possible causes for this? Please help -- Noob here!

Go to autozone and have them read the OBD error code (the connector is under the radio and "not an ashtray" ashtray where most people keep their cell phones). Most likely if the car seems to be running fine, you didn't tighten your gas cap all the way. I did that a while ago. Be sure the crank the gas cap until it clicks plenty of times.
Hopefully it's nothing more serious.

I twisted the cap on the same as always, three sets of clicks so the handle is straight up and down...i filled up 2 days ago though and already halfway thru the tank, and its the same gas station I use on a regular basis.
How much does AutoZone charge for that?

says "hello to my TLX".
it should be free. around here they hold on to your license and a credit card and let you check it out for yourself. there's nothing to it. is the light still on?

Yeah its still on. It came on about 12 miles away from work, about half way thru my commute...no hard driving or anything since traffic stunk--people cant drive if it looks like rain.....another day another forum for that! But yeah...no rough idle, same performance, the light is just on. Would this have anything to do with maybe oil or tranny fluid, etc?

I appreciate your help everyone. I did not get an owner's manual with this since I am second owner and bought it from a independent dealer, not a huge chain. I have 73,600 miles ---bought it with 67,800ish. Should I just go ahead and do the next scheduled maintenance now or what for the proper mileage interval?

The maintenance Light comes on every 7500 miles or so. Its basically a reminder for you to bring you car in for its routine maintenance. it doesn't mean their is someting wrong with your car. To reset it hold the select and reset button, next to the ingnition, at the same time then turn the key to the ACC position. Hold it until you hear beeps and see the light clear. I think thats how you do it. If that doesn't work, look in your manual. I know for sure it tells you how to reset it in there.

Thanks...NO manual but I will give it a shot. Hard to believe I have put 7500+ miles on it since the end of Oct with it sitting for 2 months not being driven.

Yeah, that happens to me every few months, just the other day acutally. From what i have been told it pretty much comes on the the reasons stated here. Apparently if you take it to the dealership or something to get the oil changed they will automatically reset the light. Since i change my own oil, i don't even think to reset it until it comes on. The maintainence required light will not come if there is some problem. If you were to take it to autozone it most likely wouldn't bring up any codes. For codes to be found, the CHECK ENGINE light will illuminate.
