lowering void tranny warranty?

so i went to tustin acura dealer today for a rattle fix,

and in the meantime asked them...if i lowered my car, everything will still be covered, esp my tranny, right (except for the springs, of course)??

and they said...'we've seen lots of trannies go out cuz of lowering jobs' that put too much stress on this and that in the tranny, so the tranny MIGHT not be covered. they even said it was like a 50/50 thing, depending on what acura corporate says.

this sounds ridiculous to me. any recommendations/word on this?

ppl with lowered cars, acura hasn't given you shit on broken trannies right??

thx

Don't go to Tustin Acura, they're full of BS; go to Mission Viejo Acura, Maxx Fowler, the Service Manager is awesome. Best thing is that MVA is family owned so they treat everyone very nice.

Wait, wouldn't they have to prove that lowering caused the tranny some extra stress?

How could they even prove that with they record Acura tranny's have?

Hahahahahahaha *breathe* hahahahaha!!!!!

That is the most pathetic bullshit line of excuse I've ever heard coming from a dealership. At least if they are going to BS about something so obvious like that, get creative!! Come up with something totally stupid so that at least we get a laugh out of it.

I only see one logical solution to this -- shove the lowering springs and the transmission up their lying devil asses and see if their medical insurance company would deny coverage because the springs and the tranny put too much stress on their asshole.

Tell 'em to fuck off and go to another dealership.

Man, I feel hostile tonight!!

Time to move on; you’re getting BS’d and this issue has been addressed before.

The lowering springs == tranny problems is a sure sign of a demented mind – at least in the case of the Acura CLS. Keep them away from the car. I'm not kidding.

I’ve been watching over the tranny problems for a pretty long time and I’ve never seen any correlation between lowering and tranny failures (nada, zip, zero). PERIOD!

There is some rather involved information that could be used to show that a lowered car could compromise cooling. However, that presumes the following:

1. That the tranny was solid and didn't have problems that were Acura's own making.
2. That the cooling was significantly altered by the change in airflow caused by lowering the car. The current transmission is not aggressively finned and the Acura reports to the NHTSA NEVER mentioned any overheating or reliability problems due to lowering or reduced air flow over the actual transaxle case.
3. That someone actually did air flow tests of a robust transmission and conclusively demonstrated that the air flow required by a particular design (think air cooled engines, etc) was reduced by lowering. (They haven't done tests. If your turkeys think they have, make them show them to you [if you haven't following the sage advice to move on to another dealer).

The other issues would concern a change in axle movement. That's what you have bumpstops for. The ‘04 TL has a factory lowering kit option. The transmission is of similar design.

I've included this information to show you that this issue has come up many times, and many people have given this issue serious thought and attention.
