Low Idle/Car Dying Issue
Hey Everybody -
My trusty '01 CL-S (2nd tranny ,160k) is throwing me another curveball. At startup, it is regularly settling into a very low idle and sometimes dying. More recently I've even had issues getting it to start (battery is new). These could be separate issues so here are the details on each:
Low Idle Issue: when this happens, if I quickly give it a little gas and hold the RPMs up a bit, idle returns to normal and stays normal after about 15 seconds.
Not Starting Issue: Car goes from not starting (makes startup noise but doesn't turn over) to starting as expected. This happens about once per week. Getting it to start is simply a matter of trying multiple times until it does start, and then it runs like normal.
Any insight would be appreciated!

I think they could be related... Did they start as separate issues or did you notice these issues arise at the same time?
Check the idle air control valve under the main throttle body by unplugging it and seeing if that changes symptoms.
Usually a vac leak raises idle. But not always...I would inspect the neck going from the vsa tb to the front of the main throttle body for tears, mine ripped and it caused the symptoms you are describing.
If both those check out. It may be fuel related. Does temperature play a role in these symptoms? If you drive the car and it's hot then go to drive it 15 mins later... Same symptoms?
Let us know bud.. We are not going far :-)

Assuming the IACV is clean?
Next time it happens, tap on the 'Main Relay' (aka Fuel Injection relay) up under the dash to the left.
See if your symptoms are covered here?
