Lost to an Si!

As i was leaving work last night, i see a red civic si go past me, i could hear his exhaust pretty loud, so i immediately follow behind him, hoping we could race. We pull up to a light that we are both turning left onto, onto a 4 lane road. The light turns green and he just gives it half throttle to get his rpms up to vtec and once he hits the straight away, he's off.

Now i thought this was going to be an easy kill, so i turned VSA off, but leave it in auto mode, and once we hit the straight away i floored it too, of course he got the slight jump because he was in front. So in 1st he pulls about 1 car on me, and i think then that once i hit 2nd its all over, nope. In 2nd he continues to pull about 2 cars and maybe one more in 3rd and then i let off, as he keeps on going.

At this point im ready to trade my car in, thinking i just lost to a lightly modded Si, yes i know some can be quick, but the majority of Si's rarely see 15's. I pull up to him at the next light and ask him was he has in there, he says, "Type r motor and its supercharged", I'm thinking damn, so i did a good job, but he says its not completely tuned yet and he's only running 5lbs of boost.........he says he ran a 14.4 in the 1/4, but i know he could do way better than that.

So, my pride was once again restored and i drove off to some ZX2 trying to race me and i just flew past him with ease, kinda made me feel a little better about my loss.

Nice death. And it's cool that the race was kept friendly.

Well watch out for those Si's. Some can be quite fast. I used to own one and it ran a high 14 with just intake, exhaust and clutch.

My friends with Superchargers ran high 13's, low 14's. A stock Type R should hit about 14.4 or so. Supercharged with a good driver should be into the 13's easily.

A stock Type R will not run 14.4...more like 14.9-15.2.

But they have been known to run mid 14's stock, just like a GTS could run high 14's stock....though most dont. JUst like the Si, most si owners with I/H/E run low to mid 15's, but there are a few out there that can run in the 14's with that.

This guy also said his car wasn't completely tuned yet, and he only ran a 14.4, so tuned right he should easily surpass that time.

haha Sup Damon.

More then 75% of the Type R's I have seen run here in Seattle run a better time then 14.7. 25% of those are stock, another 40% just have intake and exhaust. Guess people around your parts can't drive

No heated seats, although the recaros are quite nice

I work for the shop who built that car. It has a Type-R bottom end and Jackson Racing supercharger. It is a lot of fun. Just be on the look out in Orlando for the Black Si with Black Volks and Brembos---he is running.....well, I will let you all see when you meet up with it.

What?

Dude... your an embarrasment to CL-S owners. If you don't have the stones to throw down against some pussy Si, then sell that ride to someone who can do it justice.

There's no way a mod Si can compete against a competent driver in a CL-S.

Maybe next time you should let you woman do the driving!

A turbo SI will smoke pretty much any CL-S. As for a modded NA SI (I/E/H), all of the ones that I have encountered are a joke. Not flaming, but they are slow as hell.

Sure they aren't the fastest, but what do you expect from a 1.6 liter, 17,000 dollar car? It's a good car for the money, and that jackass had no right to try and clown them. Btw, Si w/ i/h/e are capable of high 14's, it just takes the right driver.

I have seen only a few run at the track. They run mid-high 15s mainly, but this was in poor conditions. My car was running 15-15.3. I have a lot of respect for forced induction SI's. I have seen what they can do to fast cars. Like I said before, I have never run into a SI that will give me a good run. I've run many of the SI's on the highway and put bus lengths on them.

You have no right to call an Si slow when your car is only running low 15's. My Si (pre-turbo) was running those same times (my one and only time at the track, meaning room for improvement). I've seen i/h/e Si's run faster times than yours, so how can you call a car that runs the same times as yours "slow"?

Umm you need to learn about how atmospheric conditions effect performance. My car was running low 15s@94.5 mph in 90 degree weather with 90% humidity. Also, I was running 2.31 60's and it was also my first time at the track. The SI's are the track were almost a FULL second slower than my car. Thats why I call them slow.

How is it that I need to learn about atospheric conditions? Did you state any of those conditions in your previous post? No. Funny, my best 60' of the day was a 2.38, meaning my traction was ass (which it was because i was on the stock tires) but still ran 92 mph (which isn't as good as your trap, but owell). My friend w/ an Si who was at the track with me that day was getting 2.2 60's, not to mention he ran a 15.2 w/ i/e...

one last thing, the Si may be "slow" stock, but your's is too. I'm sorry, I can't understand one 15 second car owner being able to call another 15 second car slow.

My car on a "good" day is definetly a 14s car, just look at the trap. If I could have gotten my 60' down to 2.275 I would have been in the 14s but oh well. A friend of mine was a BIG Honda guy and just got a 96 Maxima 5 speed. With minimal mods such as Intake, Y-pipe, and lighter rims he ran a best of 14.44. Granted he is a good driver, but I am sure in the fall when theres cooler air he will improve on those time. He also order a Variable Intake manifold, which SHOULD put him in the high 13s all N/A.

I call a SI slow because everytime I encounter one it isnt a race. At the track even .5 is a big difference in how many car lengths are between 2 cars.

oh well, we're not getting anywhere, we obviously have different veiws here, and we are definately talking about two cars in two different classess. This could go on for days.
