lost to a lincoln LS

It was from a 30mph roll to about 80. He beat me by 1 car length. Guy was cool, I gave him a thumbs up. My question is I have headers and CAI and just had my actuator checked at the dealer last month. He had a V8 LS. I have beaten LS's before many times so I was wondering how he pulled on me? Are their any performance mods for those cars? Something like this really makes me wants to get that supercharger, that is if my tranny can handle it. I have one of the earlier producyion type S's. I think its number 846.

There is no way you should lose to any LS, V8 or not. I'm thinking he has some kind of mod. As for what kind of mods, no clue. I don't there's much out there since it isn't really considered a sports car. There might be a supercharger that can fit that engine. If it was whining then that would be my guess. Anybody familiar with the LS engine?

lost to a lincoln LS

Oh I almost forgot. Hopefully this had somehting to do with it. My engine was cold. Car was running for approx 1 minute before I raced him. I hope that is why I lost.

from a roll the LS pulled on you because it has more torque than us and his engine was probably pretty warm. Our cars aren't super fast from 30-80. What gear were you in? If you were in 3rd then you should've dropped into second because at 30mph you would be at 2k on the tach and there isn't that much room left in the power band before you hit 80mph and redline. Regardless, those cars are heavier than ours and have less hp but more torque. You shouldn't lose with the mods that you have.
The more i think about it the more i think it might have been your cold engine or he may have added a mod the engine. You didnt' lose by too much so it was prolly the gear you were in and your cold engine.

I was in D5 with VSA on, When i punched it at 30 it downshifted into 2nd. I mean its not that I lost by much, but it is the first time an LS ever pulled on me. Oh well, no big deal, you win some, you lose some. Its all about having a good time.

Check your IMRC actuator. If it's working, the guy had some type of mod or was spraying. If you indeed hit second gear it would have been all over.

I owned a Mark VIII before getting the CL-S and test drove one of the LS V8 with the Sport package. What a dog. Very unimpressive. My Mark VIII would eat it for lunch, and it was slow compared to the CL-S.

Remember......

The key here is it was a V-8. Easy to mod a Ford Pushrod V-8. Upgrade the camshaft, heads, intake, throttle body, chip the S.O.B. then change the idle a little. Add a few spark plugs, change the tranny and rear end, then you now have a police cruiser that'll walk down almost any vehicle that posts to this forum. Think about it, its the same core engine the cruiser use to give you guys the pinkslips when caught behind the red and blue disco lights.

It's still a Ford, and it's still a poshrod.

Dajuice27.... You are mistaken about the engine. First of all, Ford does not make a pushrod v8 anymore. Even the 4.6L from the Crown Vic is SOHC. The LS has a 3.9L from Jaguar. A detuned version from the S-Type and XKR, etc... 32 valves, DOHC, etc.. Pretty hi-tech compared to the older Ford v8's.

This car has NOTHING to do with a Crown-Vic as you are referring to. It is based on the Jaguar S-Type.

Dude, either you suck at driving your car or else you are full of shit. My car will destroy an LS lincoln and we have similar (performance) mods. Btw, real smart racing your car after it's been running for 1 minute, that's real good for it.

......and dajuice27, yer full of shit too.

If you were in D5 at 30 i'm thinking you might have been in 4th and then downshifted into 3 because the CLS rarely downshifts into second for hard acceleration once it's moving.

Why would I make up a story about losing a race? Like I said earlier, I've beaten several LS's and know how to drive my car. I have never raced on a cold engine before, but this guy was on my bumper begging for a race, and I'm not one to turn down a chance for a good race.

yeah, what is it that someone always goes negative. there is nothing wrong in 1 thing he said.

you never know what's in the engine bay of another car until the hood is open. and there are plenty of sick people dropping monster motors in sleeper cars!!!!

You lost because your car was cold. Also by being in D5 going 30 is a bad spot for our cars. If you had been going 20-25 you would have killed him...if your car had been warm.

Nothing to be ashamed about. It is a V-8 and 0-60 listed at 7 sec flat, which means some cars are faster (maybe this one) some are slower.

BTW the lincoln/s-type and Thunderbird share the same platform, it is shared, not anyone's.

There are aftermarket parts for the LS.
Or maybe it was the LSE prototype that will have put more sport and power in the car.

Thanks for clearing this up, cus...I've been a little busy at work to debunk all the incorrect domestic info.

Exactly...the engine likes to be warmed up...not to mention the Vtec will not kick in if the tranny and engine are not warmed up.

come to think of it, my car shifted at 5500rpms when i was racing him. Its like i completely missed the peak of the power band. I tested my car out fully warmed today and it shifted at redline. Ok never race on a cold engine again!!!

Exactly..the computer will not allow the motor to overrev without proper cooling and oil circulation.

NICE Cool feature that none of the sales associates told me about. I never noticed that feature but then again i usually warm the car up for a good 10mins in temps below 40 degrees so the engine is nice and lose.

NJ typeS and Mattg

SO I was incorrect about my info, my bad. No need to get pissy about it. I may be full of shit, but I also know when to correct myself.

NJ typeS, you lost and asked for advice or searched for an opinion as to why, so I gave one. I hope with your ignorance and shitty attitude - racing a guy with a cold engine, you lose more than your race. Dicks like you constantly end up on the side of the road doing dumb shit like that.

Mattg, you gave your reasons, buzzed and 4 in the am - no harm, no foul. I never claimed to be an expert, just gave a little suggestion to help ease your thoughts. No beef with you, or in that case, with NJtype S either.

By the way, if we all were correct, then there would be no reason for the word mistake to be in our vocabulary, now would it?

Dajuice27, exactly where on any of my posts did I exhibit a "shitty attitude"? I asked for advice and appreciated the advice I was given?
