I wanted to compare overall ratios; below is for the 6-Speed

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Final Drive

3.933 2.478 1.700 1.250 0.976 0.771 3.286

12.924 8.143 5.586 4.108 3.207 2.534 Overall Ratio

As expected, the 6-Speed gearing is noticeably more aggressive than the GS. Our 5th gear is nearly the same as the GS's 4th. Which due to a lower weight and more aggressive gearing could potentially overcome the torque disadvantage.

What might come into play at higher speeds is if the GS has a lower CD, which I beleive it does. CD has more of an affect on acceleration at higher speeds than weight.

So, in the end it still looks like stock/stock, a GS will pulls better as the speeds approach and go over three digits. But below that it should be comparable.

I was told that when comparing Gear ratio its hard to compare FWD vs RWD not for sure tho! Can anyone inlighten us!!!

Oh yea at those speeds arodynamic play a big part in it too! And the GS has one of the slipperiest arodynamic car body in the world. I will let Dr.Rick explain that one!!!

lookin at the dynos of the cl-s' with i/h/e, i must admit that the gains are impressive. i wish there was a combo that we had to could give us 30 - 40 rwhp, other than forced induction. but we do have some tricks that can utilize what we have more effectively. they are just costly. i really cant wait to get back to the track and see what i can get the 2nd time around with the new ECU and all. ill be interested to see what times you guys get tonite. have fun all.........

We'll just have to get lined up down at Silver Dollar Raceway on the 29th.

I haven't had the 6-Speed to the track yet, just got it in July. So I'm curious what I can pull down. I think I'm going to pull the manifold and TB and P&P them this weekend. I also hope to put UR pullies on by then. Not to mention a new intake...

But one fun trick I am working on, the 1.5x1.5 Inch Urethane bar stock is on its way, are rear spring blocks. I'll mill out the Urethane hopefully next week and test it out. Having the rears inflated to 44 PSI with the spring blocks and then the fronts down to 27 PSI I hope to hit 2.0 - 2.1 short times. That should help to give you a good run

That should make you pretty fast in the 1/4 if you get that kind of 60ft time. Keep us inform, Its great how two total different car brands can hold a nice civilized tread and get along. I wish I could go to LS-1 board and have a decent chat without them calling me a RICER or something like that!!!

13.9@100 is respectable, esp when you can put 4 or 5 people in your car when you need to, drive in isolation from all that road noise, nice stereo, great seats...etc.

My friend has a 98 GS400, great car, better all around than my car, but a little pricey to buy one and keep the SS, so i went with value, bought a CLS and kept the ls1 SS.

I respect your car and what it stands for; just can't afford it right now, as would be the same problem for all the LS1 board members. Start at 45k or more, add the power adders you need to get to the 12s with serious handling (probably another 10k) and you're just out of their price range.

However, overall there has been such a push in performance right now it's great in the luxury sports market.

Unfortunately my present financial situation doesn't allow me to buy a really fast car, that has the attributes of a luxury car. The e55, rs6, m5, clk 55, clk 32 amg, m3, etc are what I need, but won't be able to afford until i finish my residency.

So you can come here, listen to us talk about value pricing of our CLS and chat with one fast cobra owner, and a couple of quick LS1s without serious attitude problems (? envy problems)

Joe

Thanks roo97ss for the complments and respect of my car! It took me along time to get where I'm at today, especailly with 2 kids and a wife! If Daycare wasn't so expensive (300.00 a week) I would have bought an S500 or 600 with the AMG package

I have to say... I think Nova's TypeS will even beat a slightly modded GS400. I followed him today and his car was amazingly fast. No disrespect, my 540 beat any stock GS pretty easily due to my mods, but damn I was very impressed with Nova's car....WATCHOUT! Hell, he'd give me a hell of a run!
