Lost to a Civic Si with a GSR engine....

I got so owned. Pulled up to a light, had two passengers, he had none, light turned green, I got the jump....

Then I hear "ENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!"
- a classic ricer exhaust sound- and see this Civic just go flying past....I was like WTF...

Next light I was talkin to the guy, and I asked if he was sprayin, he said no, but he did have a GSR under the hood. I was like "Oh, nice" I gave him a thumbs up and turned off. God how I loathe Civics......

Don't take it to hard, it happens to us all. I remember being raped by a new Jaguar XJ recently. I know those things are fast, but the way it just roared passed me as if I was standing still(I was going WOT) left me with a sick feeling in my stomach for a while.

I'm trying to figure out why someone would swap out the B16A (99-00 Si) in favor of a B18C1. They're almost identical motors. (I could understand if it were the B18C5, but B18C1?)

I try not to mess with too many civics around here because there are alot of kids with too much money on there hands. I would say on any given day I could come in contact with at least 5 turbo charged civics just between my house and work. I don't even bother because I don't ever want to say I got beat by a civic

most people don't, it's usually just an ex civic with si badging. That would be pretty pointless to swap out for 10hp and 20 tq

B18C1 gets more tq. more room for upgrade. the b18 handles boost better. I believe a GSR puts down 170hp as opposed to the B16A's 160hp. The GSR also provides for much better low end torque and the .2L of extra displacement is a bonus.

I know they aren't 3G's just for the motor, i'm talking about if you have the swap done by someone. You can probably still even get them cheaper, but my point was that it's alot easier to drop those extra G's into a b16 and make it stomp on a stock jdm b18.

well the 20 tq is a start... you forget that the b18 block can handle much more than the b16 boost wise. Plus if you're going all motor, there's no replacement for displacement.

Nice death. No shame in getting beat by the motor swap.

Now THATS what I would swap into an Si. (Personally, I'd like to get a 90-91 CRX and swap that motor into it.)

Also Civic49, I understand that the Civic Si did put out 170hp (despite the 160hp rating); the reasoning being that Honda didnt want the Si to cannibalize GSR sales.

Peace.

it's done all the time. He may of blown his orig. motor or just wanted to go w/ something bigger, a better sleeper, etc

different strokes for different folks. Type R's make great N/A motors and they are unique

my brothers stock integ ls with a precision t3/t04e boosting 9psi should be dynoing around 270whp 240ft/lb...that thing should be sick, but i havent gotten to ride in it being im 1200 miles away.

and most people that sell their b16's for b18s are getting stronger motors and alot stronger trannys besides making their money back on parting out the old motor.

my friend's ser- spec-v just got beat 2 out of 3 runs with an 00 si w/ gsr swap last night. The si/gsr wasn't as quick as I thought it would be. Every run was within a car, and the spec only has e/i. The spec did lose $50 tho.

not even! whats 25hp for a few grand? Plus the gsr is WAY better for boosting! Thats why most people choose them.

stock vs. stock the HYPE-R only runs about .4 seconds faster in the 1/4.

yeah, what he said.

as far as GS-R vs. Type R...

stock for stock Type Rs are .5 second faster on average, but mod for mod is where it gets bad, I've seen a few bolt on Type R's running 13.7's on street tires.

i understand that but if u werent goin for uniqueness then with the money left from not buyin the type r motor U WOULD RUN ALL OVER IT WITH A BOOSTED GSR

BUT I DO UNDERSTAND WERE YA LL ARE COMIN FROM

IF I HAD LOTS OF MONEY I WOULD GO WITH A TYPE R MOTOR JUST FOR BRAGGIN RIGHTS

dude would you rather run 12's with a boosted gsr or 13's with a n/a type r? it's really all up to the person, but they would both cost the same.

and i've seen bolt on gsr's come very close to braking 14. a little more than e/i/h tho. And you can say you've seen e/i/h R's run high 13's, but you probably just heard that from someone on H-T I've watched modded type R's run mid 15's

But usually a type r with e/i/h will run low-mid 14's if driven decent.

I klnow some older civic hatches that would smoke you. That is unless you can run low to high 12's. Daily drivers too.
