Lost to a 98 GT

I couldn't believe it. I raced a friend of mine he had E/I/H, that I know of. He pulled on me through 2nd-3rd-4th gears. How could he be that fast?!

I understand when you flame a kill, but a loss...come on. I wouldn't say anything bad about my car unless it really happened. The other thing is, my friend's car has been is serious accidents. They had to swap the rear part of the car from another Mustang. I really can’t explain my feeling when he was pulling away. And to top it off, he said he wasn’t at full throttle. I couldn’t say anything but “your car is still alive man”.

What the hell were you using 4th gear for??? Anyway he was modded. We do better against non modded stangs. Once CAIs and exhaust and other little shit starts bolting on, we are dead.

Your friend has more mods than he is telling you. The 96-98 Mustangs were dogs. Even modded(sans blower), they were high 14 low 15 sec cars. You should have walked him on the top end.

I used to have a 95 GT(302 Vert), and my Regal GS would kill it, and my 95 killed the 96-98 no problems. Your CL-S' are running about the same as my GS except you have a much better top end.

Anyway, it would be interesting to find out what your friend really has, oh and sorry to hear about the loss. You win some, you loose some.

a bolt on 98, gears, exhaust, intake, maf, tb, +/- headers can tickle the 13s, (realistic low 14s at mid 90s) enough to beat a cls for sure. however, up top he shouldn't be pulling you, perhaps the other way around. If he is pulling you up there (ie going away), then he's def got more mods than simple bolt ons.

a lot of the older 4.6 guys are swapping the 99+ heads (also found on some crown vics, and a swap from the 5.4 truck motor, which negates the advantage the 99 has and therefore the advantage you have. Maybe he's gone there.

I don't think you realize how shitty the CLS top end is. After 100 it's pretty much prey to a lot of shit out there.

I'm frankly surprised that you lost off the line that bad though...

hehe... funny...

You're a little off on that....
When my 98 GT was BONE stock... down to the air filter and Goodyear street tires, I pulled an even 15.0 quarter....
Then start adding mods to a stang, and they really wake up...

For a pony car, the 96-98 modulars were slow.... hampered by anemic heads.
Luckily, Mustangs just BEG to be modified...

VTEC or not, your 4th is still like .78 to 1 ratio. I remember when my modded ( I had every bolt on, even VAFC tuned) TL lost to a stock VR6 from about 105 ish to about 120 or so, then we both shut down.

When I raced NovawhiteTypeS in my 540 (my 97 that is, I have a different one now) off the line is where the TypeS shines, but he and I were on the freeway and around 90ish or so I almost rear ended him. I couldn't believe how hard it pulled all the way through middle of 3rd and then the car just flat out dies.

this might sound wild but if he bought the 98 with the stock motor either blew it up or got tired of it and put in a Cobra motor in it and didn't put Cobra badges on it to become a sleeper. :P

oh no another angry thread about how "fast and all mighty" mustangs are. bottom line oval boyz stock vs. stock we'd inch you out. now don't go and start gettin deffensive like you guys always do and start sayin shit like " oh, well put my 410 rear and blower and heads and whippernapper and i'd own you ". cause if you added the same modds to a cls you'd just be cryin in the exhaust fumes!! end of story.

Hey dikcls......what are your mods? what are your times? .......not what the magazine says you should/could run in the best conditions possible. think you're the one inhaling those exhaust fumes cause you're obviously clueless. You were obviously never "one of us", because you wouldn't be so stupid........just cause you owned a 4 cylinder stang, doesn't make you a blue oval guy.

BTW, I love eating rice..........just cause I hate rice, doesn't mean I don't know it's not good for me to eat. And also, let's not get into if I had this mod or that mod argument.......cause you gotta run what ya brung......no excuses. My '90 LX went 13.9 @ 100 stock (well, it had a K&N and 3.55 gears) on street tires..........I don't think there are too many stock or modded CLS'/TLS' running that fast..........unles they're one of those super duper sleepers w/ Nipon imprinted on the engine block.

look fuckhead if you wanna get nasty.. worded wrong i was never one of you, a fuckin looser who can't face the fact that i can burn a muskrat! and gets all fuckin defensive. when the fuck did i even qoute 1/4 mi times bitch ass! i've only qouted hp punk. 3rd i owned a 13.2 sec 88 stang you fuck. and when the comment on beating a muskrat came up i said a stock cls can out run a stock stang, when did i say anything about who has what mods. on that topic all i said was when someone outruns a stang you guys come back with "oh it was the driver,uh duh". and the only comment i ever said about mods were that mustangs obviously have about a million more options to play with, thank you. btw i also owned a 500+hp camaro with a 175 shot that can burn any of your cars bitch..oh it must make you feel so tough to talk shit on the computer, i'd bet anything if it came to face to face you'd run like a scared little punk ass bitch!!!so suck it up and shut the fuck up before i decide to come for you bitch!!!

Hey quik... you better calm down or your gone..... no need to curse and no need for the personal attacks. Fiveoh's post was not that offensive at all.... you need to relax.

This Mustang vs. CL-S shit is so rediculous that the few who insist on arguing the point are giving this board a bad name. I mean, we have lurkers from every freaking board coming here b/c of the BS posted on here. Why are we even comparing the CL to a Mustang? If we had Camaro's then I'd understand, but we don't, so let it go. I know if a V8 Mustang beat me I'd understand... that's what they're built for... straightline speed.

This topic is closed. Argue in one of the other 5 Mustang posts until those get closed too.....
