Looking for a race in all the wrong places

Looking for a race in all the wrong places... there must be a song in this somewhere...

Anyway, last Saturday night was the first night in a while without any rain. It had been almost 2 weeks since I had my S/C installed and I hadn't raced anyone yet. So sometime after 8pm, I decided to go trolling for a race. I drove up and down a couple of different express ways for several hours looking to race; but all I found was the following:

1) After about an hour, a late model vette (definitely an auto) got unto the express way about 10 car lengths in front of me and got on it. I immediately got on it and started to reel him rather quickly over the next 1/4 mile, then he suddenly brakes into the left hand turn lane just when I was about to pull even with him. I guess he was heading home or he could not stand to get passed by a CL.

2) Later in the evening, I'm just about ready to give up. So I make a right-hand turn onto the express way passing an older 90's BMW and accelerate lightly. All of a sudden, the BMW starts to pull up on me. I then down shift into 2nd and wait for him to catch up. After he pulls even, I nail it. After 100, I was waaayyy in front of him; probably 15+ car lengths. I decide to make a u-turn at the next left-hand turn lane. While waiting at the light, he pulls next to me and speeds off when the light changes. I didn't want to bother since it was no contest.

3) Finally, sometime after midnight, I roll up to a red light and there's this late model stang (v8-auto). You know, the whossy looking white ones with the skirts. Anyway, we start rolling even after the light changes until I hear his V8 go WOT, I nail it into 2nd, 3rd, 4th. After 95, he's probably 10 cars back. I slow down and wait for the light to change and let him catch up. Basically, it was a repeated rape of the stang.

After this last attempt at a real race, I headed home and started to feel a little bit cheap, like somebody looking for love in all the wrong places. I couldn't believe after over 4 hours of trolling, this was the best I could come up with. Where does a guy need to go to get a good race?

Signed - very dissatisfied... (’03 CLS 6sp with CT i/sc/h/bp/e – 305 WHP/262 FT-LBS TQ)

On my way home tonight, I owned an M3 (mid 90s I'm guessing) by at least 10 car lengths after 90. Off the line, he got 1 1/2 cars on me cause I wasn't pushing it in first; but when I nailed it in 2nd and 3rd, I flew by him. He looked shocked when he caught up to me after I backed off.

I'm still looking for a worthy opponent

Sorry!!! I didn't mean no disrespect. I'm in CA. But if you make it out my way, I'd race you gladly. Not sure how my S/C'd CLS 6sp would do against your T/C'd 300zx.

none taken at all

I just figured you were talking about no cars in your area, thinking you weren't in AZ

I'd like to get to cali, but, I think the drive out there in my car would leave me pissing blood, it really rides like shit...just pounds away...

just to let you guys in, I was sandbagging a bit, 20psi intercooled makes 450rwhp, and I've been running 24lbs lately

Gee... my CL only has a lowly 305FWHP/262 FT-LBS TQ and is only running 3.6psi max. However, it handles great, still rides well and gets 30 MPG on the highway. And I don't have to worry about pissing blood.

cls6sp03,
the only competition you have is chemmech, but its auto you have the advantage, plus the bpipe.

I think with your setup, its going to be hard to find a good match. Not alot of cars run high 13's from the factory, but a shitload run in the 14's. The only cars that would be fun to mess with are evo's and sti's, and maybe an auto vette.

With all that power you'll need some serious stopping power. Believe me, if we ever meet up I'll show you what a traffic cone did to my front bumper.

Yep... my next mod... CT metal master pads, cross-drilled rotors, SS lines and hi-temp fluid. Not quite ready for brembos.

Your in So Cal, maybe we can set up a time to go to Carlsbad or Fontana. Those are nice numbers you have from the dyno. There might be an A6 that would be a fun run. It would be nice to see them side by side at the tree. Its a 6 speed also. He dyno'd his car got OK numbers and has been to fontana a couple of times. But its a big ol heavy pig. I am a lowly Tiptronic and Old N slow A6.
Carlsbad even though it stinks as a drag strip, its alot cooler and at sea level for some real good time. Maybe sometime late May- Early June. Would be nice to get some Acura/Audi people out there on a Saturday, could be fun.

I'm up in the BA. The closest track to me is north-east of me in Sac. But thanks anyway for the invite. That would be a long haul for me. I just posted another race I had with a 98 stang. After that race, it became evident that I need better tires for off-the-line racing. Otherwise, I may get some pretty pathetic numbers in the 1/4. My P/S A/Ss are causing me traction grief; getting lots of wheel spin and/or hop in 1st and a little in 2nd when going WOT. Definetly need some stickier tires.

Ya, kind of far ! : ) Heading up to Buttonwillow for a track event with Hotchkis Tuning May 8th. About half way there. SHould be hitting Sears Point and Laguna Seca before year is up.
Hooking up a big HP car with FWD seems hard to get dialed in. Hope you find the tires to help out. Will some suspension stuff help with that too?
WHen you get the grip, make sure you beef up other things since you will be tranferring that power much more efficiently and the next link in the chain may become a problem with the added stress. SOunds like a wild ride though!!!!!

Yep... you could say it's a wild ride...

Don't have much more I can do for suspension. Already got CT springs, sways, as well as konis. Maybe I could dial in the konis to full stiffness -or- somewhere in between to minimize wheel hop if this is part of the cause. Also, need to get lighter wheels and brakes; currently running with OEMs. For tires, I've heard the new P/S PS2s are stickier than Toyo T1s. Might get me a set later this year.

pretty lowly... You only have 305fwhp/262ft-lb and you can't find anyone to run you? Seriously? You should be shooting at Camaro's, Mach or Cobra Mustangs, STi, Evo, M3, M5, etc etc.... Especially in CA, there should be a million cars who wanna run, not even including the exotics. I'm here now, but my car ain't, otherwise I'd light you up good.... =)
