Looking for a good radar detector...

I see that a lot of people here have the V1. Has anyone herd of or have the new passport 8500. It claims to be better than the V1. Here is a link to the page. http://www.escortradar.com/8500.htm

Just to let you know i called them and asked if they have another cord so you can hide it and run it to a fuse box, or somthing like that. They said that you can order that wire for 10 bucks so you dont have to have that cord hanging in the way.

I’ve read many places that the review noted was BOUGHT & PAID for by ESCORT to show up Mike Valentine.

Of course, I’m a BIG V1 backer since 1992 so you need to take my advice with a grain of salt.

I got the 8500 because its smaller and easier to conceal than the v1. even tho Im a hardcore v1 fan. If I didn't live in va I would of got teh v1 the day I got my licence.

What I did was purchase the 30 dollar Smart direct cord and a visor from escortradar.com and plan to wire the smart direct cord(not the coiled one that comes w/ the detector) so it is located inbetween my heatseater button in that small area. and plan to have the detector clipped on to the corner of my drivers side visor behind the tint wired directly to the fuse box.

I'll let you all know how it goes. should be shipped to my house before next week.

Ageanblue Type S also has the escort 8500.

V1 all the way.
I'm moving to Hawaii in a month so I won't need mine anymore. They use undercover car's to pace you.

I have had so many radar detectors from Cincinnati Microwave or The Escort store or whatever they call themselves. Their devices are fine except I found that they never really improved after the first several units. IOW, I had a 4600/4700? and every unit I purchased since then didn't perform any better. So I left them. I found the V1 and now I'm a believer.

BTW, I think Passport is a bit deceptive since they don't tell customers that the cordless Solo is actually much less sensitive on battery power as opposed to the optional AC cord.

Nova,
Return the 8500 and wire the V1 as per shawn. It is absolute stealth. From the outside of the car I have a hard time finding it even though I know where it is. It's not as big as you think.

They use undercover cars in every state. But HI can't rely stictly on unmarked cars for traffic control, they wouldn't make any more. A lot of states (don't know about HI) have rules about a certain percentage of the police force (like 5-10%) can only be comprised of unmarked vehicles. Anyway, HI is big on laser from what I understand. V1 works against laser. Keep your V1. You never know when you might need it.

I've had my V1 for about a month now, and I wish I had gotten it about a week before that! I am constantly amazed by the range of the V1. I'll be doing 90 on a freeway here and the thing starts going off in Ka band (almost always a cop). Just a little at first - and I jam on the break and slow down to the speed limit. Then, at least a half-mile later (usually longer), I see the cop! Mike and his detector are amazing! As far as range goes, the passport might be a little better, but with the bogey counter and direction arrows (don't listen to the people that tell you they don't work!), the extra $100 is well worth it!
