Just get the cheapest intake you can find and stick a K&N filter on it. Check with the guy on eBay running this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-02...em120224946372
and see if he can give you a similar deal on an intake for your 03 CLP. Then just buy a K&N filter for like $30 and stick it on there.

comptech or aem CAI is most common. comptech is closer to stock in appearance and sound. if money is an object remove the resonator and drop a k&n air filter to get similar results. imo, comptech ftw

I wouldn't go for a short-ram intake though. They're not as efficient and they hum like a UFO.

Since you have a CL-Pee, i'd recommend the AEM V2 intake. It's expensive but it has great sound and the most gain. I love mine.

honestly it's just a stupid tube with bends that has a filter at one end.... since the gains are minimal, just go for it.... or get it custom made at a shop...

your other choice is the "ghetto box" which is resonator removal, you can add some tubing if you want. but i think u should get k & n if u do this.

I also have the V2, it gains power on the entire power band instead of just high rpm

Ok just to recap the advice given to me:

First of all thanks to everybody that replied. Well seems like I can get a short ram intake, a cold air intake, or go with a higher more notable brand (AEM V2, Comptech). Well this would me my first of many, but money is kinda tight. I do want an intake, and am jealous of a friend who has an AEM on TL Type S (drool....). Perhaps I should wait and get a better brand if I really want the best performance.

In summary: Will wait on the intake mod, and try to subdue the mod itch bug for now.

if you just want a mod to satisfy your mod bug, there are mods that are quite satisfying without spending money, instead you'll be spending more time....

if you have a 01-02 you have headlights which you can black out, paint the housing.. you'll spend less than $10 but you'll spend a few hours, satisfying of course.

you can spend no money and remove the resonator... you'll get somewhat the same effect gains wise, but not sound

of course the design of the aem v2 is almost not imitable unless you can weld (of course you can get this custom done for less). the regular aem are imitable since its just a pipe with 2 bends.

LIPPSTUH:

I have a 03 clp, so the headlights are slightly smoked, I'm satisfied with the look. Eventually I want to be able to be close to the power of the type s, but without having it look like a type s, haha. Project sleeper is in place, but when it will be started will be a while, till i get school out and get some bills out of the way. I really liked the blue led conversion as well, but looking at the DIY, it got me thinking otherwise. Well thats it for now, just trying to get that paper.

We have only tested the intake VS a AEM intake, not vs Stock, so I can’t tell you the gains as of now about a stock intake, but it beat out AEM intake by almost 7 HP.

The intake starts off as 3" and has a smooth transition to 4 inch, so that the transition back to the throttle body is smooth. The intake is also a lot quieter than the AEM, at low rpms, and driving around, but gets a little louder than the AEM when the car goes into Vtec, which sounds really good.

The one shown in the picture is on my car, which is a 6 speed model. I still need to mock one up on an A/T. So if anyone is in South Florida area, and would like to bring their car to my shop, so I can take some measurements, it will be greatly appreciated.
If we release these intakes, they will probably come in a Hyper Silver color, as it will most likely be a low production part, and I will not be able to offer different colors, so I think Hyper Silver will be able to go on just about anyone car. Also mounting bracket for intake will be setup for people who are running our TB Spacer.

I did a DIY ghetto jobby on my old 2.3. It was the piping u use with the drying machine and I attached a cone to that sucker. I thought it did a pretty bang up job for the minimum amount of money and had a nice whoosssin noise. I know its ghetto and i never let anyone underneath my baby hood.

Of course, if your looking to show off, spend the money like the rest of the mod heads in here. Sure it looks cool, but we don't drive around with our hoods up do we?

Spend the money where it counts, BRAKES, wheels, springs, tint.

A CAI is a CAI, just pipe with a filter at the end, but I agree with getting the K&N.

So thats the intake Casper was talking about... . I can probably bring over the CL so you can get some measurements, I've been itching to get one of your spacers on the whip for a while now as you know, so we can knock out two things at once. Just give me a time/date and I'll let you know.

BTW I think I saw you driving around Tuesday since I was near your shop, but I wasn't in the CL and you were going in the opposite direction.

Update: measurements were taken this afternoon.

Sean said he should be finished with the AT intake sometime by the end of this weekend, so look foward to dyno results of Comptech's IceBox Vs. P2R's Intake soon.

Sean (P2R) already did on his six speed (post #15), incase you missed it earlier.

If you're refering to an AT comparison, I don't know anyone with an A/T aem intake lying around that I could borrow, so I don't think that will be possible at the moment, but if that changes, I'll let you know.

Not at the moment, I'll see what I can find out Tuesday. Would either of the two fit on your vehicle?

The MT one should be just about right, at least length wise when it comes to meeting up with the TB. I currently have an AEM intake for the TL/CL-S just sitting around, so hopefully I can pick this one up...

7hp gain? you sure O.o? seems like a lot esp on top of the aem.... so you're saying around 9-10 over stock....

doesn't add up

cost me 40$. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194366 I would be interested in replacing my engineering marvel with a more aesthetic alternative if the price was right though.

The dyno incase anyone missed it. E30cabrio: pricing hasn't been figured out yet, but look for an update sometime in the not too distant future.
