longevity...? how long?

I know Acura/Honda made a good motor from 89 and up but how long will the new 3.2 10:5:1 compression last up over time... 100,000k, 150,000k, 200,000k? We see that the transmission has a fun yet short life [ thankfully my car's vin# seems to have no problems relating ] Any opinions, or has anybody drivin like a madman since 2001? My car is a lease, im wondering if I should keep paying out my ass and give it back at 3, or should I negotiate a deal? thankx for the info peeps... peace out

It's safe to say the motor will last a long time.

It is a Honda. My last car was a 98 Prelude and I beat the snot out of it and it was running great at 98K. I have faith in Hondas. Granted...I have 22K now on an 03 CLS'.I dropped the tranny in the Prelude at 48K. Covered under warranty (including tow) but frustrating. But over 4 years I never had another problem with the Prelude. After a year with the CL...awsome service. No problems after a lot of mods.

I'm optimistic they will get this done. It is not some kind of engineering feat. As an airline mechanic and engineer, there are tons of parts on planes that are modified so that they will last 3 or 4 times as long as it was originally designed.

Honda engines last forever... my 92 Accord EX 5-speed has over 250,000 miles on its original F22A engine since the day I drove it off the showroom floor. The J32A in the CL Type-S should have no problem going over 200,000 let alone 300,000 miles.

your best bet would be to look at the NSX engines. They've been around since '91. See what the quality is there b/c I know there's gotta be some with lots of mileage...

perpetual engines = honda
the engine is the last thing you need to worry out. there is more chance of a sensor failing before the engine gives out.
there is a 99tl with the 3.2 liter engine we have (less compression though), and it has gone up to 160k miles i think.
his tranny lasted till that as well, but gave up recently. the engine will live up to honda's rep.

Yeah that was me...I'm at 173,000 miles and my J32 has yet to use or burn any oil at all between changes, and I am not easy on it. By rough honest calculations i have hit VTEC over 3000 times but the rev limiter only twice. Mobil one the whole time changed every 5k. Mods are headers, CAI, pulleys and t-stat. Still runs like it's six months old. It is a '00 TL. So far so good! In fact I want to run it at the local track (Capital Drag Raceway, Crofton, Md) to see what time it does in this cold air! Thanks to all.....

honda motors are bulletproof, especially pre-89

youre more likely to get bored with the car than for the engine to wear out. my wife's accord is 10+ years old with 140000 miles and shows no sign of any engine problem. I do my own oil changes religiously and its not consuming any oil between changes either. So take good care of it, use Mobil 1 and it'll last near forever (in car terms)

I come to this forum offten and have never seen a single person whose engine had problems. Its safe to say its one of the most reliable (if not #1) engines for cars in this price range.
when car gets older you will start having electrical problems and belts need to be replaced, but the bare engine will work like a champ.

my Accord (which is my daily driver) it's a 94 Accord with the F22 motor. it has 230K on it my family orginal owner. runs as good as new. I wouldn't be afraid to get in it and head across the U.S.A in it.

As everyone said... you shouldn't have any worries about the motor. You really shouldn't have any worries about the tranny either... well... not too many worries anyway.

You're looking at about a 5% failure rate across the board for tranny failures... and while that's about 5% higher then it should be.... it's really a minimum number of trannys in the big picture. And, the trannys that have been replaced (lately) seem to be fixed correctly. At the beginning it was obvious there was still a problem, but over the last 6-8 months or so they've been on track, and no one that I can recall who's had a replacement in that time-frame has needed another.

So, negotiate a deal.. keep that puppy... and Supercharge it

I think its more than 5%. Most of the people have their 2001 CL/TL in 30-40K mile ranges. Wait till those people get close to 100K....

exactly... which means they should be good. If you look at the numbers... almost all failures have come under 30k. The numbers are probably higher if you look at the board members.. but for overall CLs/TLs that's probably fairly accurate.

So he should supercharge it but buy the tranny cooler

The C which is in the NSX and Legend is well documented to last forever. We have at least one Legend owner over 300K and a whole group in the 200's. I just clicked over 160k and am coming up to my second timing belt

If history repeats itself you all should have a long engine life in your future.

That is good to hear. I have a 94 Accord with 134k on it and I would like it to last another few years. It is my secondary car but I like it.
