Long Weekend Trip: Will Post MPG Results
Hey guys,
Going on a long road trip over the weekend. Plan to cover almost 1500 miles. 95% of it freeway. I will post MPG results as I am curious myself for long distance travel.
I'll keep track and report in on Tuesday! Stay tuned for MPG test.

maybe this will help since this is what i did.
Fill car up,
reset mileage,
drive till low fuel indicator comes on ( should have abt ~3 gallons left)
take note of mileage at that point in time
divide miles covered by 14 or feel free to edit.
.................................................. ..............at least thats what I did.

1. Before you leave, fill up till it clicks.
2. Reset the trip computer.
3. Drive normally. I suggest around 60 mph if you can for maxiumum fuel economy. I had almost 38mpg at that speed.
4. Fill up normally at anytime. No need to wait till the light comes on. but fill up till it clicks again.
5. Take note of the number of miles between the fill up and how many gallons you put in. This will be the amount of gas you used to travel the distance on your trip computer. Divide miles(eg. 320) by the amount of gallons of gas(eg. 13.2) and you have your mpg for the last few hundred miles.
6. Record the results and repeat from number 2.
That is how to estimate your mpgs. Of course dont remember to do some preventative maintence before you leave for that long trip.

Not all gas pumps will click and they dont always click at the same level.
>>The most important thing is gesstimating as acurate as possible how much gas used, so if u fill it to the brim or u use an otherwise easy indicator (ur low fuel indicator) or ***till it clicks****
its up to u...........................

I got 26-27 mpg at 85 mph and 35-36 mpg at 60 mph with the cruise on of course.

Damn that was a blast! Not too much mileage but still racked up enough and counts as my first "distanced" travel with my CLS. It was a little side line test to my vacation and see what MPG this baby can rack up. Let me break this down.
Car: 2001 CLS
Estimated total weight: 4,000 lbs - 4,200 lbs (car + 4 ppl + trunk full of luggage)
Highway percentage traveled: 90%
Average/ Constant Travel Speed: 80 MPH
Highest Traveled Speed: 120 MPH
Total miles covered over weekend: 845 miles
Total amount of gas USED: 27 gallons
MPG: 31.29 MPG "MIXED"
How I derived my total gas consumed:
Started with a full tank. Killed that full tank 14.5 gallons until the light came on. Pumped another 14.5 until full. But - I derived 27 total because my 3rd fill up only filled up 12.5 gallons until full - meaning that I only used 12.5 gallons from 2nd tank. That 3rd fill up by the way, was the final fill up at a station next to my house just to see how much of the 2nd tank actually got eaten up. Otherwise, there'd be no accurate way to guess. Total = 14.5 gallons from first fill up. 12.5 gallons from 2nd fill up = 27 gallons
New spark plugs & lines. New filters. That's about it.
