So I have been looking on here and I think we should have an official list of "to do" mods list and gains from them...And lets put them in order as they should go as well.
1. unorthodox underdrive pulley kit $200 = 10hp
2. comptech,obx, megan headers $250-800 = 25hp
3. aem v2 intake, comptech icebox $250 = 5hp
4. exaust of choice $250- 600 = 5hp
5. unichip $700 = 12% gains?
if I am wrong, please make the corrections, and lets make an official guide for all to see. Plus i am sure there are many more mods, just trying to make an example

hey
you arre about correct. headers and a vafc or apexi neo will show you the most gains. note: you will only see gains when you have aftermarket parts and when your acf neo is dyno tuned. i showed 20whp gained with intake headers axleback

cool...
we wont get into wheel hp cause it varies too much with 6sp and autos and just the random condition of the cars...
anyways, lets make a real list guys

I coulda sworn you could only wish for 5hp on any exhaust mods? Except the RT HF Cat (which isn't on your list) which gives you 5hp or so (i think).

The issue we need to address here is what we mean by "horsepower gains". If you get 10hp from a CAI and you have a Type S, this does not mean you now have 270 hp. It means that the maximum power increase is 10 hp at one specific part of the power band (ie max power gain of 10hp at 3400RPM).
You can't take a part that gives you 5hp and another part that give you 10hp and yet another part that gives you 15 hp and think that you now have 30hp more than when you started.
Some mods (like headers) hurt horsepower in certain RPM ranges but make more in others. It seems like a common opinion and I believe there are Dyno charts to back it up that you lose low end HP by installing headers, but see gains in the upper RPM range.

This list is pointless because once you start combining modifications the advertised horsepower increases go out the window.
A CAI installed on a car with no other mods will produce 10-15whp depending on if it is an automatic or a 6-speed.
A CAI installed on a car with headers, cat-back exhaust, UR pulleys, UniChip, etc is not going to and 15whp no matter what.

Don’t forget suspension. Should always be your number 1 mod. Springs, shocks, and strut and sway bars. Not to mention synthetic fluids all around. Always have clean plugs and oil filter. Have sticky tires, and good brakes with new pads and steel lines that have been bled and new pads. Run some Sea foam through and get a tune up with new everything (hoses, plugs, fluids, valve tuning, the works) AND THEN worry about engine mods. If you are looking to turbo, get a cylinder bore, pistons, piston rods, injectors, fuel rails and fuel pump. If you are going N/A, throttle body, spacers, headers, CAI, and if it rains alot where you are get a bypass valve. Jet-coat those headers and check for leaks. I recommend a tranny cooler. With bolt on mods you can only do so much, but if you actually open her up and start thinking about things like cams or a port and polish, you can really build something. Hope this helps to someone new to this hobby. This post might not have all the “gains” everyone is looking for, but trust me, if you look at mods from the performance aspect and not the “horsepower” aspect, I don’t think the gains will really matter. With bolt on mods, at MOST youll get 50 hp. For me, I just like wrenchin on my car. I don’t race, I just want something that sounds good, is fast when I want it to be and handles predictably. Be tasteful and don’t rush!

If they really did, the auto manufacturers would throw them on cause they're cheap and would allow them to increase HP ratings.

hear goes all mods were dyno before and after I known because I did it , if you went back in search you would find it 6 1/2years ago
2001 cl type S base dyno 194.2 hp and 185.7 torque
headers,exhaust 211.5 &199
headers ,exhaust ,home made intake 225 & 201
Fuel pump ,grounding kit ,hyper kit no change
v-tech controller 3 hp
unorthodox pulleys 4.1 & 0.5
b-pipe 4 & 3.8
outlaw eng thermoblock no change
commptech ice box 6 & 0.1
random converter gain hp but lost 15 # of torque
When put all together except random converter
241.1 HP and 202.1 Torque all dyno's were done at Garage Kwai
weather played a part in # ,could differ a 1%

Those numbers are from 1 car. And from 1 car installed over many months/years and dyno'd in different conditions.
In other words, when trying to apply his numbers to all cars and adding modifications you'll come up with precisely jack shit.

All you can do is estimate roughly what you get. WHP is where it's at! Gross HP means nothing but a good number to guess how much you may get to the wheels after you factor in drive train loss, weather conditions, etc. dyno proof is everything. Most people don't dyno until they get a lot of mods or go extreme with their setups.
Don't you think the guy at the shop would think you're retarded if you asked to dyno your car every time you did a small mod unless you're doing R&D with new prototype parts?
Some companies are honest with their numbers while others over inflate numbers. Stick with companies that are established and you won't get burned. Just search the forums and people will post what's crap and what's not. If you believe bogus claims of 100 HP from a "Super mini turbo cold air tornado intake extreme" then you deserve to get ripped off for being a stupid ricer.

UMM,all this thread was setup for was a simple list of mods or boltons for people that are not extreme and would like to only buy a couple of things for the best money.."bang for the buck" or just a list of all the things you can do to get a little more power, like i have heard of vsa delete, and spacers for the throttle body etc....we have all these discussions about hardcore engine tuning and dynos and shit, and most of you are right about what you say, but this was not supposed to be that complicated...just a simple list of like 5-10 things thats good to do, how much it costs, and "about how much horespower they give by a single application....like if you had say 500 or 1k to spend, what would you buy......this would be my list....thanks
1.unorthodox pulley kit $200 better throttle response ?hp
2.aem headers $300-400 10whp
3.aem intake $200 ?hp
4.custom exhaust $300 ?hp
5.tranny cooler $150 0hp
