license plate positioning

I searched and can't seem to find the old threads of different spots for the front plate. anyone have pics? I keep getting fix-it tickets is the reason I'm asking.

Just put the bracket on. Not worth all the stops and tickets.

Me personally i wouldnt drill into my bumper --- not sure on the custom brackets people have made, cops never really gave me a problem.

The front holder bolts under the bumper lip. There's no drilling of anything.

someone at the RJ meet (had an '03 NBP auto from Mass, sorry i can't remember his name) taught me how to use the stock bracket a different way: you flip it upside-down and use longer bolts to put it on using the stock holes, making it hang over the lower grille instead of the bumper. he pulled it off clean, so that's how i'll do it when i get home from school.

I hate the bracket but hate dealing with the cops more...no extra drilling required as everyone else mentioned.

The bracket is expensive if you buy from the dealership.....what isn't!

I would say so. The bumper comes with no holes whatsoever in the face of the bumper. There's two holes inside and underneath the top part of the bumper with metal inserts/clips for the screws. Go check it out.

It could have been a dealership too... Most CL's have their plates bolted on using only the lower bolt holes, but some shitbirds will use the upper ones and drill into the bumper...

Acura carland has the bracket for $8.57...

I know this is an old post, but did you ever get around to doing this? I'm tired of giving cops my money so I'm just gonna stick my plate back on. Do you have any pictures of the 'upside-down' install? Also, has it been creating chips in the paint behind the bracket?

I built I bracket for it when I drive to NY (I still have NY plates). It uses the factory holes under the bumper, but instead of mounting on the face of the bumper, it mounts below it. Its hard to explain. I may take some pics if I feel motivated enough.

THREAD REVIVAL!!!!

I finally registered my car in VA (after 2.5 years ) so now I have to run a front plate. I scoured my pile-o-parts and found my homemade (read: not nice looking) plate bracket. Its made from 1/4" aluminum. Sorry for the cellphone pics.

Its made from 1/4" aluminum and I used some nuts, bolts, and washers from Home Depot. I sprayed it with PlastiCoat. Ive got large washers on the back of the mount, and smaller washers on the front behind the plate.

I put the washers behind the plate because the lip would press the plate up off the surface of the bracket and tightening the bolts would bend the plate. Im a stickler for uniformity and the washers happened to be the right thickness, so I put them underneath and the plate sits perfectly on the bracket.

I used the OEM bolts that hold the stock bracket to the bumper, and its bolted to the same stock location, no drilling required. It doesnt touch the bottom of the bumper at all, even though in the picture it looks like it does.

Its very ugly, but very sturdy. Im still trying to get used to having a front plate on the car though. It ruins the look IMO.

What stops and tickets? No front plate on any of my cars in the last 25+ years and tickets, yes, but never bothered about no front plate. I DO put one on if going to LAX or ONT since 9/11.

Yup, and Ive had too much trouble with the law to practically ask them to pull me over. VA is a pain in the ass with any sort of equipment violation.

Hell, tint tickets cost more then 10mph over here

With LA's budget crisis, cops are out full force writing tickets for anything. I rather not to take the risk......

Understood, LA cops even walk around checking license registration tags on parked cars. They never did that before.

Desperate times......

That's what I did with mine, took me about 5 minutes. I like the look and I get compliments all the time, and its legal. I got pulled over for tints and the cop checked to see if I had a front plate and told me it was fine as longs as the numbers are showing.

Most states that's not the case. I know in MN, WI, CA, and others you need to be able to see the tabs also.
