Does anyone know exactly what i need to do this conversion? im assuming the calipers, new pads for a legend (i assume the cl pads won't work with the legend calipers) do i need the caliper mount also or will the legend caliper bolt right to the stock cl caliper mount?

do a search, lots of info. But i do know you have to swap left for right and i'm almost positive the pads are the same.

 

It is really simple I got mine from Dave'sdiscountautopars.com the part numbers are FRC10627 and FRC10628. The cost was 100$ including core charge and shipping. You have to put the left one on the right and the right on the left. Also you use the original mounting brackets that came on the car not the legend mounting bracket. I painted mine black since there remanufactures and will rust. Just swap calipers and reveled the system and you are good to go. Took me under an hour and I have never worked on brakes before but I did have a friend guide me. It does make a difference too because I had to put the originals back on while I got a replacement because one was stripped out

Nope, the calipers are the same size.
You can also use the same rotors and brake pads with the new calipers. Meaning the CL rotors and CL brake pads fit with the Legend calipers. Everything is a direct swap, lots more information if you guys search.

 

The reason this upgrade is so popular (at least on the TL side) is because of the compatibility. You have to change nothing except the caliper. No modification or anything, just flip right and left.

DO remove the caliper clips/shims and use the original CL/TL hardware.

The CL calipers actually have more surface area than the NSX calipers for a fraction of the price.

 

What year legend/nsx calipers are the right ones? Also what trim model of the legend GS, LS, SE, L, etc?

 

I believe they are off a 95, not sure which model but according to 01tl4tl the best ones to use are part numbers FRC10627 and FRC10628.

 

So the 95 legend calipers can get rid of the retarded warping of the rotors that the CL gets?

 

No you have to use cl pads, rotors, brake lines, and mounting brackets. the only thing you use is the caliper nothing else. the mounting bracket looks like it fits but it does not you have to use the cl mounting bracket.

 

No you have to get better rotors than the OEM ones, I am using the Brakemotive rotors and pads and have probably 5,000 miles on them and all is good so far. i think i warped the last OEM rotors in under 8,000 miles

 

It's gonna be either the calipers off of the 93-95 coupes (any trim level), or the 94-95 GS Sedan model.

 

I have this mod, basically everything is for acura CL, only thing you change is the caliper. Mine came from a 94 Legend GS coupe. But were on some kids prelude before I got them. I also put on new cryostop rotors two years ago with this mod, all is good. Just make sure the bleeder nipple is on the top when you install the caliper (bubbles float up...). Duralast gold pads, and Goodridge SST lines.

 

Went to autozone last night and looked up all the stuff I could on the legend brake setup. Looks like 95 Legend Sedan GS is the one you want for dual pistons. C9209 and C9208 for the calipers($55 each with a $45 core). I took a pic of the pads and have that above. The 787s are CL-S pads and the 503s are Legend pads. The pad surface is the same, there is a slight difference in the pad backing. The Legend Pads(503s) have a couple bumps along what I would call the top of the pad(on the right side of the pic you can see one of them). The CL-S pads have a smooth top of the pad backing. I also got info on the brackets, hardware and hoses, but it seems you can use the CL stuff according to above posts. The top shelf Autozone pad goes for $54.99(Duralast Gold CMax DGC503). Everything except the pads is special order, but I think Autozone does have two day delivery to their stores.

 

I posted where to get the calipers a few post up. You want to get the ones with part number FRC10627 and FRC10628 according to 01tl4tl because those give you the most contact with the pad and the site I found them for was only 100$ including core charge and free shipping

 

The thing is you don't need the legend bracket, you are using the acura cl-s bracket. This means the brake pads are seated in the cl-s bracket so you are going to use the acura cl-s pads, not legend pads. But it's cool that you looked it all up.

When I got my calipers, they came with legend brackets too, and I remember that they were a little different and wouldn't work on CL.

 

Maybe part numbers depend what brand calipers they are? I just looked them up at advance auto parts for a 95 gs and a few different sets come up.

Why would u buy these pos duralast pads when you are upgrading the brakes?? There wont be any differance between stock caliper and legend caliper... Get some more agressivw pads like red stuff like i did and ebc rotors. Now with legend calipers my brakes were never this efficient. i love it.

All u need is caliper itself. The brakcet and retainers stay the same as well as the rotors and pads

 

Lifetime warranty. I still wouldn't get Autozone pads, but hey, to each his own.

 

Ive seen Duralast pads crumble during the bedding in process. Theyre great for grandmas Tercel, but not if you plan on actually getting some heat in the brakes.

 

I work at a local parts store and will be looking into doing this mod, actually more comparing the calipers themselves first. I have 2 questions. Do the legend calipers mount in the same position as the original calipers? and I have a TL types S all im seeing is the CL-s mentioned, but this should be irrelevant correct? Will still work fine as long as left goes on right and vice versa?

 

Just make sure the bleeder valve faces up.

 

lawl at the pad comments.....you guys do know that there are only a few brake maufacturers right? most of the stuff is rebranded insert manufacturer here.

People upgrade their calipers to help prevent warping of their rotors........and don't need maximum performance pads for DD..... the TL/CL rotors are SMALL for a 3500lbs car.....

 

So, this may sound idiotic but this 'upgrade' is just for the front calipers correct?
Does anyone do anything about the rears? or does it really matter? opinions?

Yes it is just for the fronts. The only thing I have seen for the rears is a Rotora bbk which will cost some money. the ones from davesdiscountautoparts.com are re-manufactured calipers.

Yeah, those are the same ones i have. I would recommend those they have workEd great for me. With the calipers and new rotors and pads I've got I only have $245 into it. I would've done the rl calipers on the front but needed brakes fast and didn't want to change my brand new wheels or run spacers. Overall I couldn't be happier and I have had to use the brakes many times at 80+ and a few times 100+. With no signs of warping or hotspots.

 

I seriously need to get on the ball with changing my calipers. I bought them last year and never got around to doing them.

Whats the difference between these and the RL?

 

Legend calipers are 2 piston. Rl calipers are a BBK and 4 pistons

 

RL calipers are aluminum and weigh less too.

 

The larger rotors are heavy as a mofo though

 

Not much heavier, and you could always run two piece rotors with an aluminum top hat.
