Leave factory oil in for 7,500 miles - OFFICIAL
http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/Mainten...qs.asp?faq=oil
It's official, directly from Honda, don't change the oil from in your new Acura for at least 7,500 miles, the first specified change in the manual. Changing at 1,000 miles, or 3,000 miles, or 5,000 miles is BAD for your car. See below, or click on the link above.
"Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?"
Your Acura engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

...but if you follow the severe schedule your first oil change will be at 3750 miles, by the owner's manual, the Helm manual, and the TSB that your Acura mechanic is given by Honda of America.

the engines last forever anyhow and produce an awesome combo of performance and fuel efficiency regardless.
To me, it's the tranny oil that needs replacement at 15k! on the dot!

Anyone who use their car in city driving most of the time, or anyone who ran it mostly during the winter for the first 3K miles (like me...picked it up on DEC 1st 2002 on LI NY) should use the "sever schedule" of oil & filter change.

Personally I did mine around 4500... so a little over 3750, but under the 7500 mile mark. Funny though.. I changed the factory oil in my old CL around 2k miles, and it now has close to 100k (I still see the guy that bought my CL) and has never been in for any services other then a sunroof malfunction at around 55k.....

The FAQ says:
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.
In my case that was 7,500 (normal), if severe that would be 3,750. I did not mean to imply everybody should wait until 7,500, sorry..

...and I burned down a quart of the initial break-in oil by 2000 miles. I had to top off with another quart and did my first change at 3750 miles (following the severe schedule).
I burned down another 1/2 quart over the next 2K - 3K miles or so and have not burned any oil since.
