Launching the CLS

What are the fastest ways to launch this car? WHat is Torque braking? I can't find the answers in the archives. What about street starts? How do you achieve low 6's?

torque braking is when you hold down the brake w/ your left foot and raise the rpm and give your car gas w/ your right goot. When I was doing launches w/ gtech and racing AC's 540 I torque braked till about 2500~3000. Im not sure if its bad for the car but it sure does help launch it better.

FYI... brake torquing is pretty bad for your car. I mean... I wouldn't do it all the time, but it's fine for the track and a few street races here and there. I remember reading somewhere on here that brake torquing causes rapid heat buildup in the tranny or something.

It is bad for the car, but that's why your stall limiter is set at 3000rpm is prevent any REALLY bad damage. This is true for most autos. But launching this way at the track improves ETs and 60ft times...not to mention reaction. I haven't gone to the track yet, but I imagine..holding it in first and lauching at about 2500 is ideal...

I *think* from a cold-dead start.

To add another vouch against brake torquing, I completely screwed up the torque converter of my old Integra with brake torquing. The CL's have enough torque to avoid bogging, so brake torquing probably doesn't help as much as it does with a low-displacement engine.

Best to launch with VSA off and car in D4 for races. As for torque braking, I would limit how much you do that. Getting headers is the best way to add some good hp. Good gains in the mid 20hp range have been reported with headers.

What is a stall limiter?

I think a stall limiter set so you can't rev the engine higher than a certatin rpm while your car is in park or N. might be wrong
