Looks like version 3.619 is the latest.
I got this from the V1 website.

Actually I just checked my S/N and mine is Ver 1.7 as well and I just purchase it in June 2000 so maybe that one you speak of isn’t that old.

I entered my S/N on the “upgrade check” page and this is what they told me about it.

Not worth 189 dollars to me.

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.7 gives high performance on all radar bands. Also,it remembers your “mode” setting when shut off. Has stack of four LEDs on front panel for band identification. Front and rear laser.

Upgrade Recommendation: While this version is not quite up to today’s V1 standard for Ka, it’s almost always good enough, and always better than detectors from other makers. X and K performance is excellent. Upgrading merely to improve radar performance is not cost effective, in my opinion. Upgrading does bring other benefits, including our latest Generation 3 front-and-rear laser warning, which is a significant improvement over the Generation 2 technology used in this unit.

I wonder if the “Generation 3 front-and-rear laser warning” has any improvements like Chevy TRAILBLAZER & BMW Z3 false alarm avoidance.

I have 2.909 and it does give false laser alerts ocassionally. I just bought the V1 in December 2000 so this latest version of software apparently adds that new Ku band (not used in the US).

BTW, I turned off my X-band alert capability since I am 99% sure there is no X-band radar in use in Kansas and Missouri at least I hadn't seen any in 2 years. The drive is much more pleasant, much more free of false alarms, much less multiple target false alerts, and surprisingly I'm not paranoid of running into an X-band radar. For sure I will turn it back on when I leave town.

Bought mine this summer, it is 3.619 with the smaller design.
Just came back from using it on a round trip from NJ to FL.
Its great to get out of NJ, as X is still used heavily here.
I noticed much more instant on use in the southern states. The V1 direction arrows are a very big help!!
It was nice to have most of the trip (from VA south) with posted speed limits of 70. Almost makes radar detectors not needed as they don't bother you up to 80. NJ is another story

I also get an occasional laser false, but I have my V1 behind the upper window tint. I wonder if that could be the cause along with very bright taillights?
