Laser and the V1
Laser and the V1
As you know it is the holiday weekend and the cops are out. Major laser speed trap right outside my house (how convenient)!
If I haven't said it before I'll say it again: the V1 can and will pickup laser that is not aimed directly at you. After passing thru this trap once and I went around the block for another pass thru. This time I made sure an SUV was in the right lane about 4 cars lengths in front of me (I'm in the left lane). We both were doing the speed limit and when we approached the trap, he got hit first (at least a 1/4 mile away). V1 sounds the alert...then off. Seconds later, I get hit...V1 sounds off again. Each time for about 2 seconds in length. Another pickup was behind me and I didn't get another alert from V1 but I am sure he was clocked too. Why?
Because you could barely see the officers ahead standing on the street corner with orange vests on (they stopped people by walking in the street). So, a few seconds after I was hit they just stood there; then they went back to the "rest" position which is back over to the laser operator who was leaning against the lightpost and he wasn't wearing an orange vest. In other words, they broke up after they clocked all three of us, the only ones on the road. I could tell.
So I conclude that I can pickup the laser if it is aimed at a car ahead of me but not really if it is aimed at a car behind me. Let me add the the SUV in front of me in the right lane was almost exactly between me and the laser operator (meaning you could drawn a line from the laser operator to my car and it would intersect with the SUV). No tickets for me today but another laser situation under my belt.
Since this is right outside my house near 135th and Nieman, I'm going to go back out and do another pass to see what else I can discover. I might even walk down to the corner and observe. Maybe I'll learn something else. OPP (Overland Park Police) seems to be pretty friendly.

Oh and let me just say that I am very pleased with the V1. I'm so happy that this detector performs as promised and the performance is indeed exceptional whether we are talking about laser or radar.
I remember the old days of the Passport 4600 and later models that I was so frustrated with false alarms and in particular laser. I used to drive back and forth and back and forth thru these laser speed traps with my Passport and never so much as hear a peep out of it.
Now it seems like every laser trap in Kansas or Missouri, I get an alert from V1. Nothing could be more satisfying; well almost nothing.
I concur what has been said here over and over by Shawn and others: "V1 is a religion, and I'm a believer."

I dunno...
Ive spent the last few days driving right by cops with lasers and the V1 hasnt sounded a laser alert yet. Maybe its cuz im in Full Logic but I doubt it.
Could also be the rain... except for yesterday when it was still sunny out and I was in the slow lane in I-87S... cop was on the right shoulder with his door open and the gun aimed out... i drove right through it and the V1 never said a thing.
Dunno... maybe im just missing when their shooting the thing?
