Well peak torque comes in around 3,500 RPM. So yeah, use SS and keep the RPM in that range and you’ll always have near-peak torque available and you should be able to “feel” more power than in the 1-2k RPM range.

You got to be kidding, right?
Lack of power... There is 253lb.ft of torque at 3,500 to 5,500 rpms, just use the fooking SS shiter to be in that range and you have plenty of power... Do not know what is SS, just floor it...

There is enough torque at even 2000 rpm with this engine. The problem is (once again) long gearing. Way too long. And combine that with the tendency of the ECU to shift to the highest possible gear for gas consumption reasons (and other reasons) and that is why the car feels like that.
SS mode is the only option but still, the gearing is way too conservative.
There is worse though. I was looking at the gearing of the Infiniti Q45 and check this out:
1st gears redlines at 57mph!!!
Can you even believe that? No wonder why the Q45 is testing these rediculous 0-60 times. I mean if you are going to gear a car like that, you might as well have it do 60mph with 1st gear to save the 0.5 sec that takes to make the shift from 1st to 2nd.
Looking at the 540i automatic. Second gear redlines at 62mph. Coincidental? No way. 62 mph = 100 km/h which is how they test in Europe and Japan. By doing that, they get the best possible 0-100 k/h times. ANd that is why, C$D tested the 540i below 6 seconds for the 0-60.
How the car is geared plays a major role as to how fast the car feels. You'll be surpised.

Talking about lack of power...
Just now, when HW road leveled... doing some 65-75, switching to SS, droping into 3rd, slowly mashing to the metal and shifiting to 4th at 6.5k rpm and I was doing some triple speeds in no time Oh yeah, I had an extrea 200lb balast in my passenger seat....
That is a freaking fast car...

Actually this engine of ours makes less torque at 4000 than it does at 3000 or even lower RPMs. From my experience, this engine pulls nicelly from 1000rpm to 2300 rpm, then starts to feel slighly weaker and then it starts pulling harder again at around 5000 rpm and all the way to 7000rpm.
Dyno graphs have shown that too, although most of then start showing results at 3000 rpm.
I dont know where Acura got the max torque at between 3500 and 5500 rpm. It may be flat at these levels, but I dont think it is the peak torque (maybe 5500 but not 3500).

I mean, what happens between 3600 and 3800 rpm? Why the sudden and significant drop in torque?
Something tells me it is related to the IMRC switching.
And then at 4800 again. Is that due to the VTEC? Hmmm...

Isn't 3800 where the butterfly valve for the 2nd intake runner opens? And isn't 4800 VTEC? I mean, there IS some delay while that is happening - it looks like it might show up on the dyno - but my seat-of-the-pants driving can't tell.
Placebo effect?
Placebo effect?

There seems to be some "variation" -- I checked one members car and his valve just snapped open (really quick). Sorry, didn't check the RPM.
My actuator flips over at 4150 RPM (as indicated on tach) and takes longer than the one I checked the other day...

Regarding the 1st gear, maybe you can tell me if they still do that on the Maximas. My 92 SE Auto had the same problem -- no guts in first -- with the 1st gear ratio being too tall. I know it was 50-55 mph to the limiter in 1st. Passing was brutal on slow roads (20-35 MPH), and civics would just rip the front of the car off at stoplights...
Call me greedy -- I want a 6-speed Sequential Automatic with gear speeds of at fuel cut-off of:
36, 65, 101, 130, 150, 210 (over drive 6th)

By the way, my other car is a 2001 Lexus RX 300 SS. The gearing on that vehicle is much shorter than in the CLS. That fact combined with the fact that the tranny on the Lexus shifts about 50% faster than ours, believe it or not, makes the car more enjoyable when it comes to spirited driving. No kidding.
