Are Kumho supra series really THAT good?

I went to a stock car event here in San Diego last week... ALL the winning cars with the best lap times all sittin on Kumho's.

Since when did Korean people know how to make performance tires??? I'm a Korean myself, and even lived there for 5 years. They never have racing events, and would know jack about performance compared to neighboring Japan.........

Just seems kinda weird, and too good to be true, considering the cheap list prices they have to offer. For people that have them, what do you think? You like em? Cuz my Pirelli's are starting to go bald....... and I was thinkin about some Dunlop 9000's.... But if Kumho's are as good as they say it is for price, I'm in.

Akim............ just put a set on my wife's Civic Si and they feel great. Good grip and very quiet compared to the Michelin's she had. 340 wear index and AA on the traction rating, all for $64 each. Tough to beat at that price, and good in the wet too. Go to tirerack.com and read some of the customer feedback for Kumho and other name brands.................should help you. I wanted performance but no annoying road "hum" from tires, and these are quiet.

I've only had my Kumho's for a week or so but I have to say I'm totally satisfied with my purchase thus far. At $100/tire you can't go wrong. I'm sure there are some tires out there that are better.... but not $50 to $125 per tire better. I look at it this way... in order to spend $150/tire, that tire had better be at least 50% better than my Kumhos. I just don't see that happening...

My $.02

Great AutoX, and racing tires but personally I wouldn't stick a set on for street use.

The tires from my understanding wear pretty quickly, but have great traction when they are good but don't expect the life expectancy to be there.

Like everybody else said, they're fantastic for the price. They offer 95% of the performance of higher-end tires for 60% of the price. Road noise is fine, although they're pretty squirrelly on grooved cement freeways, as they try to follow the grooves exactly. Haven't had them on the track yet, but auto-x performance is at least as good as my OE ContiSports (which were pretty crappy anyway, so that's probably not saying much).

Were the Kuhmo COMPETITION tires or the street ESTECA tires?

Yes, most people that heavily auto-x probably use them because they are cheap. I have signed up for one on Sunday morning, I hope my S-03s are as good there as they are in street turns. I have heard a bunch of people praise how good the S-03s are on the track. I'll try to check the tires on the winning cars.

Excellent question. The Kumho Victoracers are probably what they were using - they are at the minimum tread depth when you buy them (5/32 I believe) and if you shave them and heat cycle them, they stick like superglue.

I dunno about the treadlife of my Ecsta Supra 712s but I know the first autox I did (an invitation-only event, so we got like 20-30 runs each) RIPPED my front left up. Heh - time to rotate FOR SURE. We'll see in a few thousand miles - I only got 18k out of the OEMs (again, 10 autocrosses or so on those) so as long as I get close to that I'll be happy.

Yeah...kumhos have been in autocross events for a long time..all you ever see on autox cars are kumhos and panasports. But for everyday driving..you get what you pay for..although you get a little more value with the Ecstas...don;t expect to stay glued like a guy with bridgestones or toyos.

"and the cold and snow?"
good question, the Kuhmo Supra Ecsta doesn't state if M+S tires. Never had a chance to try it on snow, cause i just put my stock rollers last week(winter tires)...
