Kuhmo ECSTA Supra V. Toyo Proxes TS1

Kuhmo ECSTA Supra V. Toyo Proxes TS1
Attempting to decide between these tires. I already have a winter tire so these will be for my summer rims. I"M thinking 17x8 rim with a 235/40/17 tire size.

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's are very good tires for the money. Otherwise they're not particularly spectacular and will not allow your car to anything beyond what you would expect an "ultra-high performance tire" (Tire Rack's classification scheme) to enable it to do.
They're a godsend for people who go through tires like water, which is why I use them as daily drivers. (Of course, I keep a set of "special event" tires/wheels for all-out performance.) They're actually kind of fun in that their lower limits allow you to play with a bit tail-out easier. That might be applicable to a 6-speed owner inclined to play with the E-brake. And you don't have to worry about losing half the tread depth after a bit of hard play, as you might with a soft-compound tire.
Points of reference:
Pirelli P6000
Yokohama AVS Intermediate
Bridgestone Potenza RE040
Bridgestone Potenza S-02
Falken Azenis Sport

Yea thanks for the tips. I really didn't want to spend more than 110 per tire so the kuhmos and the toyos seemed to be the only ones out there. Since these tires would be on for about 8 months out of the year i can't have the treadwear REAL low. That's why i'm leaning towards the toyos.

No go on the Pilot Sports........... with a treadwear rate of 220 i'll be replacing them once a year...not a chance. Looks like i might just have to bit the bullet and get the toyos.
BTW,
what is the treadwear rating on the toyos?

the toyo's are much lighter than the kumhos. this is the reason i will be getting them, otherwise the kumhos are great. mine are even wearing fine, w/ a 3" drop, no camber kits
why did you think the toyos were inexpensive? they are crazy expensive where i live.

Dunno why i thought that. Yeah the kuhmos are just too heavy....even for that cheap.

some food for thought ~
- your car will be faster
- you will have to lower your car a lot or it will look silly
- your speedo will be off approx 4% :o
- every 16 miles you drive, you will rack up an extra mile on the odo :'(
choose wisely, mah friend

I got my Kuhmos 235/45/17 for $95/ a peice. Out the door price from Discount Tire was $500 with warranty, install, balance, etc. I run through tires quickly cuz I drive alot. The tread on the kuhmo's, however is very noticable so everyone will know that you bought the cheapest tire. If that is an issue don't get them. I myself could care less what anyone thinks. They drive great and I still some money in my pockets.

There is probably some wisdom in what DtEW said; the Kuhmos seem to be very inexpensive and if you need to burn up tires at auto-x events, etc , find the minimum $$$ tire that will do.
The Toyo T1S can be had for around $140-$150 depending on vendor. Treadepot.com has a website with today's prices set at:
$154 => 235/45-17 T1S
$145 => 235/40-17 T1S
In the end, it is about 40-50 bucks more per tire (about $160 - $200 pre set more).
There are some people that are "rip-offs" and are determined to charge obscene amounts for the Toyos
There is the weight issue too. The Kuhmos are heavier. The Toyos are lighter. A “guesstimate” of other brands can be obtained by calling Tire Rack (and others) and asking for the shipping weight (it's not perfect, but the “method” can give you an idea of approximate weight if you ALSO get the shipping weight of tires with published weights.).

245/40-17 T1s are being run on a non-lowered CLS with zero problems. I don't know if that setup works with the Comptechs or with lowering.
They have a lower weight than the 235/45-17 and more effective torque. They are also lighter.
The 235/40-17 (when compared to a 235/45-17) might exacerbate the SUV look (depending on drop).
Someone mentioned 255/40-17. I think that is getting "iffy" in the fit department -- you wouldn't want to lower the sucker and I think it might rub even on non-lowered cars.

Zapata if ur going Teins adjustable lower the car 1.50 all around dont believe youll need camber adjustment for 1.50 in rear. Also get the T1s in the 225/45 like Mattg said with the car lowered like that and those tires = a phat ass looking ride
